Going from 1060gtx to 1070TI black got it for extra 169$ + shipping so about 479$ total, before Evga started increasing the price on it, that same card is now 519$

This marks the first card I bought for this much since the 670ti I bought, That i returned mostly cause i made mistake of buy the blower styler. that care was  throtting at 70c and sound like get engine too boot.

I look foward to see if the card worth the extra case, I just know I better now hear  no coil whine. last card I bought that had coil whine was from ECS brand, I dont think i ever owned on EVGA card that coilwhine.

I think you'll be very happy with your choice. Update us with the games you're playing and how you're liking the new card

Re: Finally getting my Set-up 2018/01/28 12:34:30 (permalink)
Yah, I mostly play Swtor which  doesnt care one bit about GPU it care about the STP of the CPU and not even 6700k can keep frame rates of that game @ 60 at all times.

I was happy with performance of 1060gtx just not with the fact it didnt seem to have much room to spare power wise in game like DX:MD and Witcher 3, even Witcher 2 at max was pushing the card to 99%. and i only game at 60fps @ 1080p

What i dont like current gen card is this whole no fan spin to certian temp. I never liked that 660gtx Auto fan curve barely keep the card at 72c under full load, if i  kept the fan at manual speed of 45% it would stay under 70c, but i got tired of having to manaul set that ever time i  changed drivers so I left it  auto. New card now use no fan spin then have fan curves that meh imo and having to manaul set fan ever driver change or have software running to do custom fan curve is not something I should have to do.

the 1060gtx hits 75c under full load and fan is barely spinning 30%, IF i where to  set fan at 45% which already louder then ever other fan in fractal design R5 case the 1060gtx would barely say at 70c. I am expecting 1070ti black to have the same fan curve that barely sping 30% when card is 70c and i expect to actual run even hotter. which at some point i might just annoyed enough to slience it and get better cooling and buying AC twin turbo III or AC extreme IV. to this date AC still has the best GPU coolers. there usual dead silent compare everything else and 10+ degree cooler. they still pain in the ass to install though. I was hoping brands like EVGA and MSI would caught up to AC in terms of GPU cooler performance and silencem, but that has still not happen.

Only thing really worried about gpu upgrades, is coilwhine that is one thing i can not and will not put up with, and seeing I never had GPU from EVGA ever do that I hoping that remains true. Only time I ever have GPU have coil whine when I bought cards from other brands the ECS brand comes to mind. Not even that evga 670TI had coilwhine it just sound like jet engine (blower style) and ran super hot and throttled at 70c so i returned it and got the 660gtx instead.

Im sure my OCD about loud fans that cant even cool things to acceptable level, dont help me. I fully expect to love performance of 1070ti black, it just mater of  not  being being loud and not running super hot cause fan curves.

I had ps4 pro for 3 months went threw 4 of  em before i returned it for refund not cause fan noise it made cause that rather quiet, but cause coil whine it had in every since pro game and in some game it so bad, I could hear 8 feet away with headphone on. im very ocd about noise especial noise that mess with my tinnitus

Should go water cooling. Large case with many rads so you can have nothing be low silent fans runing and you wouldn't even hear the thing on.

That's how it was when I had my huge mountainmods case with 1 120.4 and 3 120.3 rads with silent rental typhoon fans.. that was with quad sli.

    I just applied for a step-up as well :-) 1060 to 1080ti here :-)

How long did it take to get your step up complete?

From first apply to day i got it, maybe month
    1/8/2018  applied
    2/1/2018 got 1070ti

probably would been faster but week was wasted cause digital invoice i gave them was invalided some how

As for the card I tested out my 1070ti, I happy to report the fan on this way quieter then the 1060gtx ssc was 1060gtx ssc @ 50% fan was really noticeable to fan curve much better too. 1070ti black sc @ 50  is actual barely noticeable, and fan actual kicks up to  about 50% once the temps are in the  mid 60c  were as the 1060gtx was barely pushing 35% fan at 70+c at full load.

I tried pushing the GPU to full load to see how hot and loud it gets but, most my game seem to  stopping at about 90-94% load even with vysnc off, but temps seem to be staying under 70c, which I gonna attribute to the fact the fan actual gets up to more then 35% so this has much better fan curve then 1060gtx and much quieter fan. And there is zero coil whine even when card pushing stupid frame rates like 500+ so my streak of evga card with out having coil whine continues some 8+ cards later.

    All tests done on
1080p Max settings Vsync on for each game unless mentioned with the game

Swtor - Plays the same I already knows would never see any improvements seeing i didnt see improvements from  450gts to a 660gtx or 1060gtx, this game only care about cpu stp plain and simple., maybe at higher res like 2k or 4k it will mater

Shadow of Mordor - 60fps butter smooth, gpu barely show 60% usage

Skyrim SE - 60 FPS and as butter smooth and Bethesda engine can be barely showing 55% usage

Witcher 2 - 60fps butter smooth (including uber sampling) barely show 60% usage 1060gtx was doing 99%

So far I more then happy with the card, it should more then enough power to spare, to last me till I build new pc

    Witcher 3 and DX:MD
When I get around to installing them should give me no issue with 60fps,  with power to spare.

sadly I still have laundry list of game I still have yet to install or play for both  my PC, and PS4 which currently playing Horizon Zero Dawn on ( which really beutiful game just even if it only 30fps .  which is another game like skyrim that will probably get 300+ hours put in to and I will still never beat it. Till this day I still havent beat Skyrim. I dont think think i got 40% into base story, I just get sidetracked doing other stuff.

Comparing this 1070ti black to the 670ti bought back in the day that I returned cause fan was  jet engine noise any time there was anykind load on it. That I spent the same amount on. This 1070ti was actual worth the price of admission.

    Using 390.77 drivers

Re: Finally getting my Set-up 2018/02/01 16:42:42 (permalink)
I got to say I was expecting the worst, I was expecting to get card that, ran hotter and loud then 1060gtx and for it to have coil whine. which would out wieghted any performance gains in my eyes.

Then againi was probably expecting the worse  cause I just got finished going threw 4 PS4 Pros 2 7015b and 2 7115b, All of which had there own issues,
1st 7015b,  had faulty wifi adaptor + Nasty coilwhine
2nd 7015b, had nasty vibrations made 2x worse just being placed on anything + Nasty coilwhine

1st 7115b, had no issue other then slightly louder hdd, but still had nasty coil whine
2nd 7155b, had no issue other then slightly louder hdd, but still had nasty coil whine

At this point I said screw I not dealing with nasty coil whine in the game it was ment to play "pro" games some were just noticeable whine other was so bad I heard it 8 feet away with headphones on so i got refund . Thank you tinnitus for making such things so much worse for me.  So i was just expecting the worst with the 1070ti

As of now i have no complaints  or issues, and I am happy

On side not i was expecting to get just the 1070ti card, but was pleasntly surprised to get retail box of the 1070ti black

Wait... You can step up to a card not 1 "level" above your own? I thought you could only go from a 1080 to a 1080 Ti, or a 1060 to a 1070, or a 1070 to a 1070 Ti, so on and so forth...

Going from a 1060 to a 1080ti.. depends on what you want to pay for.

Yep the higher price, the higher difference you have to pay. You can step up to whatever is on your step up list.

Well they can't be sold as new, so I would imagine they are used as warranty replacements, and B-stock. After they are checked, and made sure they are in good working order.
