So I've been having an issue lately where if my temp hits like 72 degrees I get the Windows error "Your Rendering Device Has Been Lost" I mostly only play Overwatch which makes it a pretty big/annoying deal when it happens. Anyone else had this? I feel like this is a pretty vague issue to research so figured I would ask specifically here to see if anyone else has had this issue and possibly resolved it. I've cleaned everything out with air. It happens less when I take the side panel off but it was not doing this 6 months ago which leads me to think it's driver or hardware related.

Specs:
1080 Ti SC2
i7 6700k
32GB DDR4
Fractal Design R4 case(cleaned out)

Sounds like the card is unstable. Do #4 listed here to see if it helps fix the problem.

One of the things I did was set the GPU clock offset in EVGA precision to -50 and it seemed to help some but I did get another crash eventually, I'll try -200(max) now.

Was that with the memory underclocked to max as well?

Also, what is the model and watttage of your PSU? Generally speaking, when you reduce the clocks and you gain stability, it is the GPU. Less likely is the PSU as reducing the clocks also reduces the power draw.

850w EVGA Gold - So far no crash since reducing memory clock, but that shouldn't really be necessary right?

I don't really play other games currently but I'll try some demanding ones out.

Ok, if you don't have any issues with other games you might want to try some older drivers out to see if it helps fix the problem you're having in overwatch while running default clocks.

Okay I may give that a try, it's pretty crazy though I'm on low settings in Overwatch(albeit 100 refresh rate) and my gf's pc has a 1060 on like medium/high settings with no issue.(In Overwatch)

Having the same problem with my new gtx 1070 ti ftw 2. Overwatch crashes, sometimes after 1-2 hours, sometimes immediately, especially when i'm in a group. I also get some rare graphical glitches. Flickering shadows, a glitchy chat window or buggy glass reflections. Right after that: Crash. "Your Rendering Device Has Been Lost." But the sound still goes on, and when i close OW in the task manager after that, everything works fine. I've tested other games and ran a stresstest with furmark. No problems there so far, temps are never above 58°C. I doubt it is a hardware issue, there are many people having this problem!

When did you start having the issue? I never had this until recently.

Also what driver was recommended, I can't seem to find it. It's very annoying to reproduce this issue as I don't even like playing QP or Arcade but I can't play comp for risk of getting banned/suspended/losing rating. Not super happy about this especially considering a 1060 at 1/3 the price is not having this issue.

Update:
  • Found a driver 385.41 that was noted as being better with Overwatch, no luck.
  • Tried removing the EVGA L bracket that moves the power cables to the side, no luck.
  • Tried everything(removing cache) in this thread on reddit for Nvidia: "[FIX] Overwatch: Rendering device has been lost. Application now closing", no luck
  • Tried Setting to High Performance in W10 power options and ensuring PCI Express then Link State Power Management was set to Off, no luck.
  • Tried setting TdrDelay/TdrDdiDelay in Windows Registry to 20, no luck.
Seems to happen after GPU reaches over 68C which seems very low.
Going to try another PSU with 1000W to rule that out.

Still same issue when using a Corsair 1000W PSU.

I looked up the same program Screegore mentioned - Furmark and about the same amount of time in I saw a flash on screen and a dip in temp then a few seconds later it crashed all together, didn't show the error Overwatch did but then I went to the Event Viewer in windows and it did indeed crash:

Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
Followed by the the 'crash' of the program:
Application FurMark.exe has been blocked from accessing Graphics hardware.

It started a few days after i built in my new graphics card two weeks ago. Everything worked fine with my old gtx 760. OW and windows had updates in that time, so it's hard to tell if it was coincidence or the update's fault. Some people have reported about random glitches and crashes with 144hz g-sync monitors. One solution was, to simply change the energy management-settings from "optimal" (default) to "adaptive". I will try that later. I haven't found the right driver yet (if that is the issue) and yeah, reproducing the error in qp or arcade is annoying af x)

Seems like it happened faster when I tried adaptive just now.
