I've been Asus customer for ages as far is their Motherboards choices, in fact my current board is from Asus but because of the 7 pcie slots and few other small features.
Why EVGA quit making this types of boards like the x58 classified, they seem capable of doing it, I'm sure many Asus customers would switch if there where more alternatives.

they do, the x299 ftw and dark. the biggest thing though is nvidia only supports two way sli now so the 7 x16 slot boards are just not really needed. i will say asus has really stepped up there game (as well as gigabyte and MSI ) after evga put the smack down on them with the x58 classy boards, it really put them on notice that there was a serious competition in the uber high end.

Yes, if you're looking from only games aspect then there seems to be no need for more than 3-4 PCI-e slots, 2 for GPU's and maybe add on cards, but from productivity stand point e.g. GPU power especially that can support 7 x PCIe  @16  not all at once but and in this case single x16 or dual x16/x16 or triple x16/x16/x16 and so on so forth, you cannot find board that can match Asus WS.

I have to admit that lately Asus have been much better at support compare to few months or year ago, they have been replaying to my inquiries and concerns within few hours. I don't know if they realize that a lot of their customers trashing their customer support and  enough time would pass and even though Asus is leader in motherboard manufacturing it could potentially hurt them.

I'm sure if there was someone else making this type of M/B and the customer service was better, some of the current Asus customers would switch. Despite the improvement of Asus customer support, at least I think they got little bit better, once you create enough damage and piss enough customers its hard to do damage control, it takes very long for the name to be out there but it takes half the time to screw things up.

asus and gigabyte have a huge advantage over evga as they do alot of OEM boards and have been around for a long time, i remember have a HP pc with a slot one P2 that was a asus board with a custom bios, evga can not compete on that level so they stick to the gaming/overclocking crowd, which is fine because they (usually) do it very well.

I had a collection of the old EVGA X58 classified boards.  I have owned up to 7 of them at once and I agree that they were the best you could get for that gen.  And from what I understood, after the SR-2 debuted a lot of the mobo design team from EVGA responsible for the X58 Classy's and SR-2 went to work for Asus... which would probably explain the rise of ASUS during the X79 generation and EVGA having tons of issues upon their early X79 boards.

Here was a pic of some of the boards I had collected.  I had since sold them off sadly.  I had the limited edition X58 Classy E759 with the nf200 chip, the E760, the Classy 3, and a few of the 4-way boards.  As you see they all had the classic EK Classified Mobo Blocks.  Easily my favorite generation of motherboards of all time.  I have more pics of them all but Photobucket went off the deep end so I'm not able to post them.  I'll see about creating an Imgur album to post shortly.

X58 was a good platform. My X58 system lasted from 2009-2017. It still works but i wanted to upgrade.

ASUS does have a big advantage, they don't out source production. ASUS always offers the latest features and a good price. That is what made me choose ASUS for my Z270 build.

Some EVGA X58 Classified Photo spam!

Pictured below left to right: EVGA E759 X58 Classified LE, EVGA E760 X58 Classified, EVGA E762 X58 Classified 4-Way, and the EVGA E770 X58 Classified 3.

Some E760 Classies getting ready to be built.  Notice the three EVGA ECP panels for them to the side of the bottom right mobo.

One of my E760's featuring the EK Classified Mobo block.  This was the main stream board for the X58 Classified series.

The E770 Classified 3 was the final revision of the X58 Classified series which featured a USB 3.0 controller as it's distinguishing feature in the X58 Classified lineup.

The E762 Classified 4-way featured I believe two NF200 Chips to expand PCIe lanes for the chipset to allow for 4-Way SLI.

The E759 Classified Limited Edition had an NF200 chip allowing  three full 16x PCIe 2.0 slots for three way SLI.  The more common E760 would revert two of those slots to 8X PCIe 2.0 due to the lack of the NF200 PCIe expander chip.  The E759 was released in limited numbers and featured a certificate.

I'm typing on an E762 at the moment.  I know I would enjoy latest/greatest, but wasn't too keen on the Intel pricing / performance with SKL-X.  With Spectre / Meltdown and resulting performance hits from the patches, I'm not sure if I want the next generation.  I may cruise past that one also, in the hopes that Intel can deliver a CPU that solves for both Spectre/Meltdown and doesn't have a performance loss.  Plus, hoping AMD keeps the pressure on, so we get more reasonable (IMHO) price / performance.

Maybe it's time to think about upgrading to Westmere and converting over to a full custom loop...  :)

I can't guarantee anything but I can look.  I do have a E760 board with a blown (like hole in the board blown) VRM for sure if you dare to do component swapping for repair purposes but I will have to check through my part bins to see if I have anything else.  I thought I may have an extra full board block but I may have thrown it in with one of the boards I sold.  I'll keep an eye out.

I really enjoyed my Classified products. They did all die on me (not the x58), but that life time warranty is real.

Heh, I still have my X58 mobo (an Asus though), with a 580gtx in it.
One of THE best boards (I think the whole X58 lineup, wether evga, asus, or whoever else) was THE most stable platform to come out, as stable as the Abit motherboards were (ahh, good old Abit, the true plug-n-play stability masters of the game).

Great to hear. The X58 chipset was one of Intel's best in my personal opinion.

One of my early builds ~2009, back when everyone was obsessed with CPU batch numbers lol - X58, i7-920, GTX 285 SSC (x2 SLI), and that giant CoolerMaster V8 air cooler.. loved the look of that cooler.

still using this board today 06/07/20 :)

Great to hear. The X58 chipset was one of Intel's best in my personal opinion.

Best boards for its time.  Still got one in my 2nd rig and a back up board.
