Hi,

Anyone know what happened to the laptop power supply page? it was on auto notify for the past few weeks and now the page is gone, replaced with evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=516-34-1833-T1

That's it? You can no longer by another power supply for the laptop?

You'll have to either look elsewhere online or contact EVGA for a replacement. Someone else had an issue finding the sc17

Got a used >=8gb GPU that you'd like to sell? PM me

I noticed that as well, although the one I need for the 1080 was never available. Hopefully they are just updating the page and not permanently removing the option to buy another charger, whick I desperately need since my purchase last year.

Thanks guys. That put the nail in the coffin for my SC17, just still within my return window. The 19V power brick they used is industry atypical, the 19.5V should have been used, where for stuff like this, you could buy a Dell/HP power brick. The stuck pixels are bad enough....the replacement already came and I didn't open it fearing another round of QC issues with that one, so why bother (box was really smashed up)....I'm returning both and getting what I should have got in the first place, the 17R4. Pay more for less, yes, yes, but you're paying more for longevity and the parts to keep it going, like when the cpu/gpu fan dies, panel replacement / replacement keyboard/trackpad, power supply (never had one fail on me yet) and of course SERVICABILITY....not worth a dime if everything is glued/soldered down, let alone no manual to take things apart. Would really suck in 3 years if stuff started to break and it's unrepairable, esp. if it's the power brick. Thanks everyone for your help.

19 volts versus 19.5 volts. Not much difference. It all gets chopped down straight away by a buck converter anyway. When my SC17 is out of warranty, the power brick dies, and I have no other option, I definitely will try the 19.5 volt power brick. I think it will be no problem.

If you do end up opting for the 17 R4, be prepared for some very likely thermal problems and core temp differentials.  To achieve the full potential on the 17 R4, you might have to be willing to take it apart and repaste.  Only a small percentage of them work great out of the box.  I went through 3, on the third I had no core differential, but I did have to repaste to have temps under 90, but I sold in Brazil for good profit, and ended up getting the SC17 when I went to the US again.

Thanks vistarshook, I did a lot of research on the 17R4, and found that too in various forums including here: forum.notebookreview.com/threads/alienware-17r4-15r3-disassembly-repaste-guide-results.797373/
I plan to get the Intel 6700 [because I don't want Win10, I want to use 8.1] w/1070 and have no issue doing that, so many videos out there, including from Dell directly for servicing the 17R4.

Curious though, how difficult would it be for Andrew Han to get someone on teamevga to do a tear down video for servicing the laptop? It shouldn't be voodoo, or oooohhh noooo, you'll void your warranty scare tactics. Just do a tear down and let the users be able to fix their laptop once the warranty expires if it's even possible to find the parts for it.

They can spend time and money on playing video games, but they can't make a service video for a laptop. Nice.

I saw that you said you got a replacement. Just wanted to clarify. Is the replacement the laptop or just the power supply?

And even if it is still in your return window, you still had to pay the restocking fee right?

It was a laptop replacement, I didn't buy it from evga, there was no restocking fee.

Can the Razer Pro Laptop Supply be used with this laptop? The plug doesn't appear to be compatible with SC17. But I hope the output cable is somewhat similarly connected to the adapter board, as the standard laptop adapter one. We could simply replace it with the cable having the compatible plug. I wonder if datasheets of these adapters are available.

Yeah I have owned couple aliens and they do have a thermal problem, I do have to say the SC-17 runs a lot cooler than my R17's did. Now if EVGA just get there heads out the sand it start giving these laptops some support they would be great.
