My EVGA GTX 780 6GB SC w/ EVGA ACX Cooler has failed 6 months after the warranty expired. It started by getting artifacts all over the screen in game and now it gets them even in the motherboard boot screen. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, and rolling back the drivers to no effect. As the card is basically dead now I even tried cleaning the gpu and applying fresh thermal paste incase it was a cooling issue, but again, no effect. I checked the fans and they are spinning so that is not the issue either and the capacitors all look good. I have bought and recommended many EGVA cards and PSU's over the years and all but this one card is still working. I realize the card is out of warranty, but it is very frustrating to have it fail so soon after the warranty expired. Is there anything else i can do or should I consider this a giant paperweight? from my product page incase it helps: Serial Number: 1412533787******

You could try this. Note: Bake the card with the gpu die facing up, and not down like in the pictures.

I actually already looked into this, until i got to the part about not doing it in an oven that you will be making food in. I don't exactly have a spare oven lying around.

You laugh but I'm halfway serious. Never had an EVGA card die before until now. Was not happy, holiday weekend, middle of gaming, unexpected expense, etc. Of course I had to buy new, the only thing I had laying around was a 560 Ti and well, yeah that's kinda useless at this point unless I want 10fps in something.

Really? That's odd cause I'm using a 780 since the week they were released and I've pounded on it gaming and it's still rock solid. Although, I know how to properly setup and utilize hardware which is probably why I've never had to rma anything major. So 2 cards outta the millions out there failing hardly seems like conspiracy and at the very least probably user error.

No user error here, it's been installed in my system for 3 years with the occasional driver update every few months, cleaned twice a year, and not overclocked beyond the factory SC clock or exposed to temp extremes in the house. I've been building my own PC's for 20 years, I know how to install/update/etc. hardware.

My reference EVGA 780 died just yesterday, too. Only non-stock setting it's running is a 62.5mV undervolt. I undervolted for slightly better temps and to make the card last more, but it seems it was useless.

Luck of the draw peeps! Hardware fails. Many reasons why the GPU industry got away from the "Lifetime Warranty" and this is one. Hec after 3 years which is the typical warranty anymore, many people will be thinking about upgrading anyway. As Sajin said, oven baking your GPU can restore lost hope 90% of the time. I've personally had great luck with many GPUs, and for a card that's artifacting, I've had even more luck. It's usually the cards that produced no display that's seem to be more difficult reviving. You could also try calling EVGA, and see if they can offer any sort of help at all.

I'm sorry for your loss. My GTX 780 just died too. And hey it's about 8 months out of it's warranty period. What a conspiracy. Anyways it sucks and hurts to see a companion die.

Sorry for the death of your card. Like another user mentioned, baking it actually has a decent chance to revive it, and you don't really have anything to lose by doing it. You should check with EVGA first though to see if they can help you in any way. Good luck!

My 980 Ti just died (burning plastic smell, something FRIED), 3 months past possible warranty. I'm telling ya, companies sure do know how to time their warranty limits, eh?
