Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she doesn't have a lot to say
Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
But she changes from day to day
I want to tell her that I love her a lot
But I gotta get a bellyful of wine

Her Majesty's a pretty nice girl
Someday I'm going to make her mine, oh yeah
Someday I'm going to make her mine

What a bummer that EVGA's X299 MB comes with NO HB SLI Bridge as Other Company X299 Are.

I am using BAM, do you mean the CPU name section?  I was thinking like if I had the host name of my computer set as SmellyFeet.
Here is what I see when I look at the host list.

I sometimes wonder if half these projects  are a scam.
Would love for someone who knows code to take random tasks and see what they are.
What if we are all mining coin for a project, thinking we are looking for cures.
We pay the electric while they rake in the coin.
I would not put it past people to figure out how to scam everyone.

I am talking about the newer BOINC projects, who knows what the task they send us to work on really is.
Older projects like Seti and WCG that IBM and Marist college is behind are legit, Folding/Stanford I bet are ok. PG has been around a while.
But there are so many new projects popping up all the time, who knows if they are really doing what they say.
They could be sending me block chains (just an example) to work on for all I know.
Is there anyone who over sees any of this to make sure every project is legit? Not having us mine coin.
We could be folding for them and they are collecting cure/foldingcoin and we would not know.

Maybe I'll take my tinfoil hat off for a while!!!!lol  But who knows!!!

I would say New BOINC Projects that started up in 2016 or maybe even 2015.
I recall only one that that started up and was turned off because of the Partners was undermining the others Partner and that was the end.
I cannot recall what the Project was but had nice Badges.

This is why I will point my systems at WCG when I am not trying to help out with FB, or spending a couple days chasing a badge.
Hope the side projects I chase badges on are legit, if not I wont be out to much crunch time.

Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2017/12/19 12:44:17 (permalink)
Hey Guy's,
I am having some real major network problems today. IP addresses changing for no reason... no rebooting of the computer or server..
Modem lost power 4 times today, but the network switches all stayed powered on. So I do not understand why the IP address keep changing.
Modem is static IP of 192.168.1.1 and a range to 250

So here is my setup, I have 11 total, computers and servers, these are the most critical as they are my Crunching Babies.
In total I have about 70 or more devices connected to my network, 90% wired. A big range of manufacturers of connected equipment.

Unifi access points x4
Sonos Play1 x4 and Connect x1
D-Link IP Camera's x8
Yamaha HT Reciever x1
Dune HD x4
Nvidia Shield x2
Netgear NAS x5
UnRaid Towers x3 (These are Asus Motherboards running on Linux)
AMX Controllers and Remotes x4
Crunching computers x6 (Asus mother boards with Intel and AMD CPUs running Win 10 Pro)
HP Servers x5 (they need 2 IP addresses each Running Win Server 2012 R2)
Squeezebox and remote x2
Smart TV's x3
Network printer x1
Laptops x2
WiFi tablets and Phones x10 (Mix of IOS and Android)

I have only Netgear Pro Gigabit switches installed, all 8 of them....and all cables are Cat6

I tried setting all IP addresses static on the equipment that allowed me to set them, but had real problems after a power failure with some pieces of equipment, so went back to DHCP for some of them.
I have been looking at online videos and tutorials, but they all seem to show the same procedure. But none seem to work 100% and stay set.

Does anyone have some advice on how to stop IP addresses changing or a good video or site to show best practice for this??

Appreciate any comments or advice..
Much appreciate
Steve

Re: Crunching Team general open ended discussions 2017/12/19 13:07:33 (permalink)
Take your Time and do it right the First Time.
This way you will not damage any of your Hardware.
Better be Safe than be Sorry. Crunching can come later once you get this fixed.
I set Static on All my IP address other than my iPhone.
My DSL Modem IP address is Static set to 192.168.1.1 and is also my Gateway.
Net Mask is set to 255.255.255.0
I start High at 192.168.1.254 for my Wireless Router and Extenders down to AV Hardware like BD Players and Receivers.
"HP Servers x5 (they need 2 IP addresses each Running Win Server 2012 R2)" How are you setting them up to use Both Ports?
I do not use Both Ports on my Servers, but I Do use the Second Port for Updating Firmware and such items on my Servers but do not keep the cables plugged in with I and not updating the backend of my Servers. They get IP .1.240 to 1.249
I then start with my Domain and use .1.2 then each server that Follows up to .1.12
One of my Server is using 5 IP address 1.8 to .1.12 *Webserver.
Then my Desktop start at .1.20 to 1.99.
I do have my DSL Router DHCP Off and use Only my Wireless Router DHCP 1.120 to 1.129
Once a Device is registered to my DSL Router I do go in and change the MAC Address to it's name or Device Type.
I hope this helps a little.

Forgot my DNS, also I have a Static Pool from my ISP so my IP address never changes from them.
My DNS are provided by my ISP and I have two of them and my Domain DNS IP is the 3rd one Listed.
When I build a Rig I Set the Gateway to my Domain IP and add the Computer to the Domain then after I reboot I set the Gateway back to .1.1.
Not all my computers are on my Domain so I have my Workgroup Name the same as my Domain Name.

Yes it does help.
I have tried to shutdown everything so I can set them all, but the bug bites hard to not have my rigs not Crunching for a day..

I think I will shut down everything after the PG challenge and see how I go setting all static where I can..

Appreciate the help as always.

Cheers

When I do go down I power off my DSL Router and then each Router.
I also turn off all Devices that Use DHCP.
Once I have all powered Off I will turn back on my DSL and wait until my Internet Light Show Connected.
Then I Power on my Wireless Router and wait for it to Boot up and show my Status Lights, so it can give out IP Address.
Start Up Server Order is Domain, SQL Server then all my Desktops that are on the Domain then all that are not to include my Linux Rigs.
I do have my Wireless Router and DSL Modem DMZ Zone to each other.

I guess you have enough Ports

Anyone think that Intel® OPTANE™ Memory would have any benefits when it comes to Crunching?
