Well, I managed to beat my old top score on time spy.
New: (12223)
3dmark.com/spy/2876999
Old: (12115)
3dmark.com/spy/2086110

Edit: And it's apparently editing out my validation links.  Whatever.

Well, I knew going in that this 4790k was going to be the bottleneck. (original plan was going to be an i7 7700k, but ram prices spiked at the beginning of the year and combined with some unexpected expenses I couldn't do a full rebuild, so the chip, mobo and ram got recycled)

Running it at 4.7 is about as far as it will go unless I get a peltier and go sub ambient.  I suppose I could cheat on it a little and move the computer out in the unheated garage now that winter is starting to roll in, where ambient magically becomes about -10c as soon as the sun goes down but I really don't feel like gaming in my carhartt overalls.  Only way to get more out of this system now is more cores.  This years tax refund is pretty much already allocated, so no threadripper for me. :-/

I would wait for spring.Ram production is ramping back up (thanks Samsung) and Zen2 will be out Q1 2018. With its higher IPC over this gen it may give the 7700 a run for its money.
