A long while back I'd started discussion of how ASUS` customer service is atrocious--to say the least. *They'd ended up giving me a Rampage3Extreme as compensation, due to technicalities. Ad much as I'd insisted against it, not wanting to have to replace both my CPU AND RAM Modules just to be able to even (sufficiently) bench-test it...
...
...*welp* LongStoryShort: iWent ahead and equipped it with a 360mmRadiator+intel's-i7_990X and slapped some TriChanel 2000MHz (12GB),, thinking tri-channel @ 2000MHz (*12GB) would be the better way to go about configuring the build, as well as potentially{*} leave room for over-clocking (if need be).
...
*PLEASE*
I have been trying my utmost in research of this "build" AND there's only so long a window remaining to return any potentially defective{*} component / etc.
Currently I have the MoBo equipped with CMT6GX3M3A2000C8 Corsair Dominator,, and am curious if switching out to a 24GB DC-moduleSetup would prove superior -- among other things.
**Help?**

Thanks.

I read the whole thing, but it was just a rambling story. What is the question?

24GB's of ram is superior to 12GB's. What are you going to be doing with the system? You may not need the 24GB's depending on what you're going to be doing with the system.

    *To clarify:
For the sake of potentially over-clocking, and primarily powerhouse-server orientated work, would 24GB of RAM @ CS:~11~ / 1600MHz be the optimal configuration for the MoBo+CPU,, -OR- would utilizing modules capable of exceeding 2000MHz (CS:~9~), though sacrificing storage{*} (12GB vs. 24GB)?
    ...
Depending on the average work-load, more is better (in terms of Storage/Utilization)... ...wouldn't the faster{*} modules, with better clocks{*} be the better-est solution?
    ...
    Or, for this particular build[motherboard]; would a Dual-Channel RAM configuration--greater capacity{*}, slower clocks{*}--versus the optimized{*} Triple-Channel setup?

    *[EDIT/UPDATE]*:
The board itself has been somewhat finicky. I'm not too certain whether or not it's that it's defective, or some of my "bench-test" equipment may be (*no real separate bench-test equipment, unfortunately ... just recently acquired components--leaving me suspicious).
Finally in the O.S., the only thing I've done for confirmations, was load up CPU-Z. Almost everything was operating optimal, thankfully--except for the audio. **only after equipping it with a GPU, featuring integrated Audio, had I successfully "finished" the build.
...hoWever... While I did adjust the "auto" config. in the BIOS, to operate @1866, CPU-Z shows some different settings...
**also,, without manually tweaking the timings/etc. and configuring it in an "XMP" format, I won't be able to get much else functionality out of my current modules (than that of 'auto' [max] 1866)?

24gb in triple channel would be optimal for what you're wanting to use the rig for. Yeah, you'll need to manually adjust settings if you want to push for more than 1866.

Unfortunately, I cannot for the life of me locate any Triple-Channel Modules greater than 12GB ... even the ones featured in the motherboards QVL (for RAM). I only was successfull in finding one vendor with a stick as mentioned via the list... but America won't let me access foreign websites... >.<

    *iGuess[then]*,myQuestion-is:
    Should I stick with >2000MHz Tri-Modules (~cs:9~) @ 12GB
    -OR- Switch to a Dual-Channel Module (~cs:11~) @ 24GB
    ...
    ?

    *on a side note*
    Kind of funny,
I removed my EVGA GTX 1080 Classified from a "newer" build, to test stuff, and I think this R3E actually has been performing superior to my primary [ASUS Z77 Sabertooth+i7-3770K|w/PHANTEK*,&-32GB DDR4{?} 3200MHz (@2133)
    ...
Yet, this 1366 seems to be Better ...
*still no official test(s)/side-by-side/etc. ... soon?

I had been looking into exactly those, as considerable options(*)--thankYou, btw.
    -
Would swapping from 12GB@2200(O.C.)MHz [8-9-8-24;1.65V] to 24GB@1600MHz [9-9-9-24;1.5V] be an inprovement?
    ...
    *also*
My CPU's "T^case=67.9°C", and my system (BIOS) presently shows it operating (idle for quite some time now, in BIOS) presently at 55°C (having been watching, it has not gone above that temperature -- again,, in BIOS)

If I am leaving everything on "auto" (CMOS-Reset/w.e.),, and the system ... still iffy about loading... when finally does, reports all informations correctly... ... however, the RAM speeds always default to 1333,, or else the machine idles at the POST image (taking a good handful of seconds to count up 12GB of RAM)
    ...
Repetitiously rebooting the system (&pressing CMOSReset everyNow&Again) gets it into the O.S. ... ...there are a series of lights (feedback) just near the primary 24-Pin Power Adapter.
When it's idle at the POST, the "BOOT DEVICE" light remains on. Because of both this, as well as integrated audio difficulties, I am left suspecting the SB-chipset(orSomethingthereabouts, with the board) may be defective{*}.
    However,
When having had manually adjusted anything with attempt of optimizing the build (nothing severe, still leaving CPU in 'auto' & RAM to XMP), after rebooting: the CPU light then flashes repeteadedly... >.< ...until, of course, it defaults and re...
But, leaving everything 'auto', and attempting at setting a default parameter, for the RAM, of 1866... reboot: DRAM light now flashes repeatedly, until system restores/reboots/{*}/...
Is it possible that the "errors" may be Entirely(?) MoBo related?
    ***
The only time(s) I successfully log into the O.S. is if/when it finally prompts me, F1-BIOS,, F2-Defaults&Continue

*Suffice to say, I'm in the O.S. now. Other than CPU-Z is there any other methods/means I should look into for [for: to have/give/share/etc.] Feedback{*}?
It appears to be, without 'leaving it in a default configuration', the build is giving me too much headache for what it should...
    Something's wrong...
    ?

    *ThxAgain*

For server orientated work 24GB's is definitely going to be better. Your issues may be coming from running the ram above 1066MHz as the 990x is only rated to run 1066MHz ram.

*bleep*... I had noticed that when looking into it (via:ark.intel), but never considered it any, for the sake of the finished product.
Now I really am in a quandary...
Is there a better optimized CPU to be better integrated for this particular board, to utilize (potentially) >2000MHz TriCh ... or, at the very least 24GB@1866MHz(~CS:9~).
    ...
From what research I've done, it appears to me to be that this 990x may be the winner{*}, but that these "technical defects" may be RAM related concerns (compatibility related, not damaged/w.e. related) ... assuming?

**meaning, that I may have to just settle on 24GB@1033MHz

990x is the best you can get for that board. Yeah, you may have to settle for slower ram.

Knowing, now, to take that into consideration: should I stop fretting it, just nab the 24GB and get it functioning at w.e. MHz,, in contrast to these 12GB--which apparently are too problematic to operate (>[?])1600MHz in tandem with the 990X? ... ?
*iSuppose it'd be the better idea; as aforementioned, server-orientated work/etc. ... greater work load (24GB-RAM vs current 12GB) better, versus operating-frequencies/etc.

    *Thx4Everything*
