Just a quick question:
Before i pick up a z270 ftw k....anyone having any issues to setting up a bootable m.2? Have a samsung 960 evo.

Seems like z270 and greater MBs should have all relevant material to just plug and start. I recently built a friends system with a MSI xpower z270....didnt have to do anything, samsung m.2 recognized and had it booting up windows in no time. Had to make one simple bios change and done.

You just have to set a few things in the bios to turn it on, i have the classified and to set it to enable which turns off the u.2. The bottom one turn off two sata ports and one or two pcie x1 ports. The only other thing to do is in the boot section is make sure it set as the boot drive, the manual has all the steps to do it.

I've read the manual....thanks for the info though. After reading the manual i assumed thats what it was telling me. MB should be delivered today and i can do build tonight. It has been about 4 years since my last build so its time to update most definitely. Current system is more than starting to show its age. Thanks for the info guys....appreciate it

this year I did replace my bottom M.2 with a Samsung 960 pro worked fine .
I just cloned the old Intel m.2 from top slot that had a bootable windows 10 to bottom slot
then did a BIOS disable of top slot M.2
 
I'll take it out some day as it is under the  Video card

if you have any speed issues with that samsung then a fresh install of windows will fix it, for some reason the samsung drivers seem to get messed up when you clone the drive

The drive should work out of the box - having to insert the driver was on older platforms. On Z370 (and recent Windows 10 media), it should just "work" 

samsung uses their own nvme driver that is not in windows, it will use the generic nvme drivers and your speeds will be about half
