The program has a mind of it's own . I disabled it on this computer due to it blocking steam every time I open a game & steam tries to read/write to the files . Also removed ALL my favorites in IE 11 . Turning it off immediately gave me my favorites . On my other pc it seems to behave better , so I left it on there . Wish I could figure out why my favorites keep getting duplicated in Edge every time I boot up the pc...

What I'd like to know is how do I fully deploy Controlled Folder Access with a third party paid antivirus software?
The antivirus software tells me it will cause Protection Interference to have both Windows Defender and it self running at the same time and Windows Defender needs to be enabled to use the full benefit of Controlled Folder Access. I wonder if I should just ignore the 3rd party paid antivirus popup telling to turn off Defender?

biscuit1, Have you tried to allow Steam through Controlled Folder Access by adding it to the Add an allowed app in the settings of Windows Defender.

I have , but it still throws up flags every time I try to either launch or save a game . Also , I just open my favorites and each folder has at least 4 copies of each now ! This is ridiculous beyond ridiculous ... Edit : now my boot & shutdown times have more than tripled . Makes my ssd seem like an old 5400 rpm hdd from 1998 .

Same here. I use Emisoft which has an option to register or not register it in Win Sec Center (like Malwarebytes). I tryed it and it is just terrible. Basically you would need to add exemptions to the whole PC to stop it denying access, totally invalidating it. Right about steam, many others and even CCleaner. In it's current state I think it just blocks ALL file access.
Back to Emisoft full time with periodic scanning  from defender (no defender real time, or blocked folders feature.) The same can be done with Malwarebytes which I have on a different PC.
Not sure about other Anti-Malware progs but Emisoft allows running the two together. Malwarebytes used to make this one of their selling points.
I guess it's fine to use both realtime, especially with Malwarebytes, but the new folder access (to me it's NO folder access) is a joke.

I have to turn it off every time I use CCleaner . Thought I got rid of NVidia 3D Vision crap from the Creators update , but it blocked it & sent up a flag that it blocked the removal . I turned off sync also on this PC & it still duplicated my folders in Edge's favorites .  Crazy ....

This kind of thing is typical MS operation. 1. Good idea. 2. Implement, but it's buggy and causes problems. 3. After several patches it finally works as intended. 3a Or drop it all together.
