EA is shutting down Visceral Games, the studio behind games like Battlefield Hardline and Dead Space, the publisher said today. The Star Wars game in development at Visceral will be revamped and move to a different studio, EA says, although it will now be something completely different.

“Our Visceral studio has been developing an action-adventure title set in the Star Wars universe,” EA’s Patrick Söderlund said in a blog post. “In its current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game. Throughout the development process, we have been testing the game concept with players, listening to the feedback about what and how they want to play, and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design.”

I can't say i will miss any games made by this developer.  Hardline was poorly made game.

Not surprising. The game industry has developed a sweatshop mentality where games and sequels are churned out like crazy and if any game development company has even a singular failure they're usually shut down with the rare second chance given. Heck it doesn't matter if the studio had 10 hits on their hands, 1 failure is enough now to sink any company. I miss the 90s when game companies weren't always at risk of shutdown.

EA is going to ruin all it's franchises with microtransactions. Deadspace 3 and Hardline had them.

BF Hardline had a great single player campaign. Loved me some Dead Space but it went downhill.

Tough to blame them for BF Hardline - that was some EA brainfart attempt at a spinoff while the current series was peaking ,..... but Dead Space 3 was terrible - but again, that was probably some EA manager telling them to make it 'more accessible' and dumb it down, like all the other mindless console shooters we have...

not sure who gobbles up studios to destroy more  - EA, Valve,  or Microsoft   ?

Hardline started out as a kickstater game, EA bought the rights to it. EA rushed the game to market and slapped Battlefield name on it as a desperate attempt to improve sales.
