Hi all,

New to the forum and it's my first post here.

I'm having an extremely weird issue with my EVGA 1000GQ PSU + Biostar BTC250 combo and was hoping someone can help me out with the issue.

I am using an EVGA 1000GQ PSU with a Biostar BTC250 motherboard and a Celeron G3930. The 1000GQ PSU works perfectly fine on my other computers but it just will not boot/POST when i use it with this setup. I have had the PSU RMA'd twice from EVGA (btw support has been awesome) so i am pretty sure it's not the PSU.

When i use another PSU (CM V1000, EVGA 750GQ, etc) with this setup (Biostar BTC + Celeron G3930), the mother + cpu + ram combo boots fine as well, so i know it is NOT the motherboard, cpu, ram, or PC issue.

When i use both together however, i cannot for the life of me get the PC to boot regardless of what i do.

Is there such a thing as compatibility issue between PSUs and motherboards? This is highly unlikely as well as i have another one of my rigs running the 1000GQ with the Biostar BTC board.

I am really at my wit's end here and hoping someone can shed some light on this.

TLDR; PSU works in other system, mobo+cpu+ram works with other PSUs, but will not work when paired together!! I have double and triple checked all connections (24pin, 8pin, etc)!!

Thanks in advance!

I could easily get another PSU to run the motherboard as the primary PSU but this issue has been bugging me and i can't sleep at night if i don't find out what the issue is!

Sounds like a compatiblity issue to me, maybe a too sensitive protection feature preventing the booting.

Is the BIOS version same on both Biostar mobos? Same BIOS settings?

Yup! Exactly the same BIOS on both motherboards, the latest one for the BTC250.

It most certainly is! While i can use the 1000GQ on another PC and get another one for this PC, i would really like to know why this is happening though. Heh.

The GQ uses different wiring than the standard G1/2/3 power supplies. It is possible the btc250 board has a different pinout than the usual.

I have 0 issues with this psu on my h81 r2 btc board.

Are you trying to use 2 psu at the same time on that one board? Are you using the molex on the board? I could not get my board to post using the molex from psu to board, I assume due to wiring of GQ cables. I ended up using all powered usb risers and no mobo molex.

Thanks for your reply. I have this 1000GQ working with another Biostar BTC250 so unlikely it is a pinout issue. It's only for this particular Biostar BTC250 board that refuses to work with ANY 1000GQ, but will work with any other PSUs.

When troubleshooting i only connect the PSU to the mobo+cpu+ram, no GPU and no secondary PSU.

Sounds like your mobo is bad then. Probably an issue with the either the cpu/pins or somewhere on the board itself since that psu works on another identical board

That's what i thought as well but the mobo works with other PSUs (CM V1000, EVGA 750GQ, etc), just not the EVGA 1000GQ (and i've tried a few 1000GQs) lol. Fustrating isn't it.

I am having a similar problem with a 1300 g2 PSU... It self tests fine, but will not power/boot 2 different Motherboards. I just get a "ping" noise from the PSU. Starting to think some sort of protective feature is off, as it will not power up anything except self test.
