Hi,

I've been messing with the Maxwell bios editor trying to increase the fan rpm profile of my 980 ti Kingpins  and I can't alter the
profile to get it more aggressive so it will spin at 2100 rpd at 74 degrees vs 1100 rpm which is what its doing now. I have at
best increased the max rpm to 3600 (I think) but want a more aggressive profile for my overclock with out using Afterburner or
Precision. I must have flashed the roms like a half dozen times already at least. Tried setting the Min Temp Target down to 75 from 84
but not sure if that does anything. So I wonder is the rom bios on the Kingpins so custom that these bios rom editing apps
have their limitations? I mean I was able to raise the boost and ram speeds slightly at least. Anyone successfully altered the
fan profiles on the roms??

Thanks!!

I have asked repeatedly for a more aggressive fan profile for my Titan X, since all 3 of them I have had dont cool well enough.
And, msi afterburner and precisionX have their disavantages when installed also, so like you I dont want to have to have them installed either.
EVGA has apparently gone past the 900 series cards, and is no longer supporting them, at all, except to give you a new/used/refurb card that has the same issue.
I have asked for a private file that I can have with my own private fan speeds (aggressive, very aggressive, is what I want), but again a no-go.
    Dont excpect anything.
    :(

I feel really stupid because as it turns out I was flashing the same file over and over as my modded file was in another directory. Hope I didn’t wear out the flash flashing but now as of just 20 minutes ago fixed the issue. Lesson here is don’t be flashing and modding past midnight!!

Can I ask you how you did that?
    What tools are needed?
    What are the steps?
I dont OC, and I have NEVER EVER done this before, but if I could have the benefits of better cooling w/o all the drawbacks of Px or Afterburner, I would certainly try it (IF EVGA doesnt take away my warrenty that is).

Could you explain. or PM me to a site that will help with this?
I have an old 8800gt I can test on, so I dont bork my Titan X.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

I used the Maxwell Bios Tweaker II app. Don't think its going to work for your 8800gt considering its so old of a graphics card but not to say that there isn't an app for that I just don't know which one. Anyhow these are the settings I went with and you'll notice there are two profiles as I have an SLI setup with identical graphics cards. Its just that one card runs like 8-10 degrees hotter than the other. Have no idea why so the hotter card gets a more aggressive fan profile. Now I have some overclocking room here.

So, do you do this in windows?
    In windows safeboot?
So I have to have another video card in there to flash the 1 (I do NOT have sli)?

    So, steps would be:
    1. Open with admin rights Maxwell bios tweaker utility?
    2. Click Open Bios?
    3. Select RPM wanyed?
    4. Select at what temp wanted?
    5. What is PER ???? I have no idea what that is. ????
    6. Continue steps 3-5 for all fan temps?
    7. Click - Save BIOS?
    8. What happens after you click Save BIOS? Does it reboot the computer? Do you have to reboot yourself to make the bios sace?

Are there any steps left out?
How high do the temps go on the video card?
How high (and low) can the rpm's go?
    What is PER?
Can installing new nvidia drivers overwrite these settings, or is this strictly in the video card settings only?
Does this void the warranty of the video card?
Is there anything else I need to know?

Thank you very much for the info.

No I don’t think you need two gpus nor do you have to do it in safe mode. First use gpu-z to backup your bios.
Need to run cmd in admin mode at least.

    Thanks.
    1 more question:
Will this OC my card if I dont touch anything but the fan settings?
I dont want it OC'ed at all, I just want more aggressive fan settings, w/o having to run afterburner or precisionx.
    Thanks.

    Edit:
I guess another question is still:
Will this void my evga warranty? If so, I dont want to touch the software at all.

No it won’t overclock your card but theres a chance if you do it wrong to brick your card.

Also if you just change the fan profiles i doubt it would void it but probably maybe i’m not sure.

Well, if no evga techs say anything, then I am going to assume it will void the warrenty. :(
Maybe when its out of warrenty I can finally stop using software to cool the card with this program.

Using a custom vbios doesn't void your warranty on a card that has multiple vbioses as long as you leave the master vbios stock. On a card with only one vbios the original vbios must be put back onto it before rma'ing to prevent voiding the warranty.

Would you happen to know if the titan x maxwells have 2 bios slots or more? I know the tech said they only had 1 bios they put out, and that is the only one. But I dont know if that means that they have 0 other 'slots' (I know, its not a slot, but multiple vbioses?), or if it has multiple?
When I get the new card back, I am definitely going to put it back on water cooling, since I know (knock on wood) that I wont be needing another rma on the card again.
And, if I can do this bios thing to NOT have to have Px or msi AB on my system, I would be VERY happy, as the fan that comes with the water cooling kit is louder than the evga fan is, but also runs faster than the evga fan does also, so I can lower the fan speeds for the same aggressive mode, and only have it run 100% when it gets to 75c (IF I can figure out how to flash. But, again, I am a little uncertain about this, as its something I have never done, never seen anyone do, and never heard of it until this thread. I hope there is a video about flashing a video card bios.

Titan X maxwell is a single vbios card. It doesn't have multiple vbioses on it.

    Oh, poop.
I guess it is Afterburner then.
    Sigh.
