Hi, I've been having trouble with an issue where my GTX 1060 fan will ramp up to full speed after startup in windows 10 for a second or too. This happens when I have the auto fan curve on for aggressive mode. When I check the temp history in hw monitor it's not reaching anywhere near a temp for this to happen. It sometimes scares the crap out of me and sounds like someone revving a motorcycle lol. I'd rather it not have this since it doesn't sound like it'd be good for the fan motor. I believe I've tried reinstalling precision, but I can try again. Was just wondering if this happens to anyone else? It doesn't seem to happen at every startup.

It's normal for fans to run high speed momentarily at startup until drivers/software loads up.  Nothing to worry about as long as when Windows loads, the fans return to normal speeds...

GPU fans spinning up at boot is fine. Fans spinning up to 100% when loading into windows isn't right. Sounds like this is your issue.

Yeah, the problem is the winding up isn't even showing up on the HW monitor or on the regular fan meter at all. I can't replicate it on demand but listening to it when I set it to 100%, I'd say the winding up is a bit higher pitch than 100%. One more thing I'll try is disconnecting my rear case fan to make sure it's not that, but I doubt that's where the sound is coming from. And I know it's not from my cooler, because I know how those sound and their speed isn't changing either. I'd hate to have to install a custom bios although I'm sure it's not too bad. I can try reinstalling precision or my nvidia drivers though. It seems to only do it when precision is set to fan curve mode and using their aggressive preset, and it always happens after precision has loaded. I'll try taking it off startup and see what happens

    RE Uninstall Precision XOC

    1) Make sure when you remove Precision, you then reboot

    2) then you Manually remove the Precision Folder off your drive - look in Program Files (x86), then reboot

    3) Now Reinstall Precision, with nothing else running - pull the internet connection - kill security and any other item that's running - Reboot again

Note: on newer GPU cards, After you install XOC, shutdown PC, remove the power cord from wall, Remove All Powered accessories (monitor, USB hub ...) press and hold power button on PC 30 seconds - discharge all capacitors, plug everything back in & Restart your PC

I tried a reinstall using those steps but it did it again right after I applied the aggressive curve. This time it showed 2730 on the tachometer (I may have been looking at the wrong graph earlier). 100% fan speed is ~2450 so it's definitely overshooting it. I guess I could try making my own curve or just not using fan curves. The card manages itself just fine without, but it's nice to see it running at a lower temperature using the curve

it's normal, mine does it also when the driver loads. it's probably just a quick test for the pwm circuit
