Why always 100% pump speed for CLC 280?

Really not liking how in nearly every thread people say to run the pump at 100%. From numerous Gamers Nexus reviews, one of the things Steve constantly recommends is reducing the pump speed of any AiO down to 90%. This is to reduce stress on the pump, thus making it last a bit longer, and reduce pump noise. I know of no review site that's better when it comes to technical information like that than GN. Coffee Lake finally launches next week, which means I'll finally be installing my CLC 280 that I purchased several months ago.

In the time that I've been waiting to actually use my cooler, everything I've seen on these forums has left me very discouraged about the prospect of using it. I knew using the Flow Control software would be required since it's necessary to use it to control the RGB lighting. I have a 1080 FTW2 that I plan on syncing the lighting on the CPU block with. Yet these forums are filled with endless problems with Flow Control. Everything from speed settings not working correctly to the RGB lighting not functioning properly.

I already HATE Precision, and wouldn't keep it running if fan curves for my FTW2 didn't require it, so I'm not exactly surprised that Flow Control is equally terrible. My hope is to use Flow Control to set the RGBs, then using the software from my motherboard to control the pump speed and fan curves. Flow Control will remain installed, but set to not run with Windows. The motherboard I plan on getting has software specifically for controlling both pumps and fans. So is there anyone here that has had success with controlling pump speed, specifically running it below 100%, and fan curves without Flow Control? If so what was your process for getting that to work and what motherboard do you have?

I thought you could control the pump. I bought this knowing all this crappy issue but I plan to run mine on slightly higher than quiet fans. Couldnt care less for the RGB, thought the logo is ugly as hell anyway.

The Flow Control software has a slider for fan curve and another for pump speed. What version of flow control are you running? If possible please provide a link to a screenshot so that we can investigate further.

If you read my post, I do not yet have the CLC 280 installed as I am waiting on the release of Coffee Lake. My post/questions are based on the numerous other threads on these forums. There are tons of people stating that this AiO needs to operate at 100% pump speed to function correctly and tons of people complaining that fan speeds either never match the speeds they select, such as running at 1000rpm at just 25% PMW, or never change at all no matter what they try to set.

And I am not surprised by this based on how terrible Precision is. The program is down right dangerous to use sometimes, like the recent bug where the VRM fan on FTW2/3 cards completely ignored any default or custom fan curves. Putting the cards at risk of catching fire. Add to that the fact you all REFUSE to release a BIOS update for FTW2/3 cards that allows us to lock the VRM fan to the GPU fan so that we may use a different fan curve program. You know, one that doesn't put us at risk of destroying our GPUs.
