Trying to figure out if i should go a step up on my power supply. I have a evga Supernova 750 watt G2

Im not sure what my graphics card is pulling (1080ti Sc2 Hybrid), but i usually overclock it more then what evga added to the cards base clock.
I tend to run it at 30% increase in voltage (with pxoc) +80 on core and +190 on memory.
So it runs between 2025-2038mhz on the core. I bought ddr4 3000mhz ram, so that would be overclocked i guess with the xmp profile. (not sure if that takes alot more power)
And im sure i will put a little overclock on the cpu depending on how the H115i handles its temperature (8700k when it's released).
But i tend not to go to crazy with the cpu's overclock, but im sure i'll be trying to acheive what everyone else deems a normal daily cpu overclock for the 8700k.
Im adding 5 addional fans, 2 ssd's and a 2.5inch hdd. One light strip. and two Phanteks halo fan rings.

So since im already playing the return exchange game with the cpu and motherboard, should i just return the psu as well for an 850watt?
Considering im not going to be able to even build the darn thing in the time it would take to return psu and get new one.
But if it sounds like the 750watt will handle the job well, im more then happy not having to exchange. I just want to get this right.

Keep in mind PSU's are at peak efficiency when under 40%-60% load. Estimate your total system power draw and go based off that. Unless you don't really care about how much power you consume then just use the PSU with wattage required for your system to operate.

Also, I'd go with P2 over G2. Not only for efficiency but also quality.

This looks to be a nice power supply.

Seasonic are suppose to be nice Correct?
Not sure how true it is, but i started seeing people saying the fans on the evga's psu's can get loud.
I have always heard that seasonic was good, but not directly from anyone who actually owned one.
Any quirks about these seasonic psu's i should know about?

I do like the evga psu's, but have always heard seasonic is really good.

So has anyone had a bad experience with a evga psu fan being loud?
I guess i would be looking at the SuperNova 850w P2, or mabey the SuperNova 850w G3 (I like that it's a little more compact because i might be trying to sqeeze a harddrive beside it) but have heard this one has a loud fan?

And i know the Seasonics are a little pricier, but have seen they have some of the best test results and suppose to be really quiet.
Anyone had experience with them??
I would be looking at the Seasonic PRIME 850 W Titanium (the one linked above.)

Re: 750 watt or 850 watt? What do you guys think? 2017/09/30 09:29:39 (permalink)
I have the 850 P2 and the last fan that I find emitting noise is the one attached to the EVGA PSU. Mind you, unlike many I enjoy the noise of my PC. I want my rig to sound like a big V10 or Boeing 777 turbofan. When I'm driving the reason I open my windows is so I can hear the engine. And to be clear, the noise of my PC does not interfere with audio of whatever Im entertaining myself with at the time. I can simply turn up the volume and that overpowers any noise pollutants from the case.

Going back to Seasonic Vs. EVGA, I'd take EVGA P2/T2 over any Seasonic every time. The reason I say P2 and T2 is because EVGA's P2 and T2 PSU's are provided by Super Flower. The G2 and GS models are Seasonic builds and I have read more negative reviews about their quality than the Super Flower challenger.

That being said, the EVGA SuperNOVA T2 looks good. If you don't mind spending a little more money for better efficiency this is a good option. Here is a review of the model which can help you make a decision: http://www.jonnyguru.com/...;op=Story&reid=462

And really, at my retailer the difference in pricing between the 850 G2 and 850 P2 is $5 CAD. And the difference between the 750 P2 and 850 P2 is $14 CAD. In the long run better efficiency saves you a little money (mind you between the G2, P2 and T2 the efficiency scale is very small). Again, these are all very efficient but in the end I trusted consumer feedback and that of some on this very forum and avoided Seasonic, just in case, settling for a (so far) superbly performing EVGA P2 unit, of which I'm getting another for my daughters Ryzen build. And yes, it's quiet. It does have a stamped steel fan grille which will result in slightly more noise than regular grilled PSU's but honestly, I am not bothered by any of this.

You could easily get away with a 650 Watt but it's a good idea to plan for the future in which case a 750 Watt would be suitable. 850 Watt would be ideal with good overhead. In the end it depends on your budget, but I am personally recommending the 850 P2 for your needs.

Hopefully from trolling the leaks out there, to some degree the Code MB looks to be one that might drop near release of the cpu. And im rather fond of it.

there was a leak of some bench marks on the 8700k, it was using a evga z370 board. but as usual evga is tight lipped about it
