Coffee Lake stuff is launching Oct 5th, you should definitely wait for that since you can get a 6-core chip for that price. Two extra cores will definitely future-proof things for awhile. They won't work on Z270 motherboards, so if you do decide to go for Coffee Lake EVGA may not have a Z370 ready for launch.

You might want to do more research cause that cpu only has 16 pci-e lanes, which means your going to be very limited on what features are available and accessible. Also, antec makes a replacement header for your case but you may have to call them to see if you can get it or try ebay. Just for reference:  http://store.antec.com/parts/nine-hundred-usb-30-module.html  Its def a good case with plenty of airflow, I own one of the v1's also, but its in desperate need of fan filters, lol. If you cant find the exact header for it and don't want to buy a new case then I would just get a usb 3.0 bay maybe like this: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA9385MP7807  and either mod it into where the current one is or install it to the cubby hole in the top of the case. Good luck to you either way though.

Thanks for listing the 900 part he would need for the case. That was a big part of why I was thinking he might want to upgrade the case to support USB 3.0. I think we all agree a case might be something he should consider it's a lot to factor into a build compared to a header. The only problem is it's out of stock and might be something that is no longer available anywhere.

Np. Antec are really awesome at helping you out with parts. I lost some of the window screw holder/caps when I modded/painted my Antec 900 and I wrote to them cause I couldn't find the parts on the store, im willing to pay whatever for them etc.... and they sent me out a free packet of replacement ones to do the whole window again for free, no problem. So im sure if the OP writes to them and tells them whats going on they probably will fix him up. Maybe not for free though.

The USB 3.0 front panel connectors are not an issue for me as the mobo mounted ones are more than adequate. But thanks for the part numbers and such!
 
I get excellent airflow with the Antec case, so I'm a little surprised at the suggestions I should replace it. All the fans have been replaced(recently) with the exception of the large one in the top of the case. After all, I'm going on 10 years now and have never had a single heat related issue, even with mild OC'ing. The Zalman CPU cooler has been running almost non-stop for this entire timeframe without failure, so I'll definitely be changing that out during the build.

I'll definitely take your HDD suggestion into consideration. I'm just going on the performance and longevity of my current drives as the reason to stay with Western Digital drives, and haven't done much research on them other than pricing. What would you recommend for a mechanical drive?
 
As far as case, the Cougar does come in a Full Tower variant, but This will be a simple gaming build with little to no overclocking being attempted. I'll be 54 years old soon, so modding or other enthusiast activities are probably out of the question other than shooting for a clean cable setup.

It the HDD is going to be for games and Steam, Origin, Uplay etc... then WD black would be a better fit, longevity and performance wise. It really depends what your goin to use it for.

The HDD will be used mainly for video/file storage.
 
Also, I just learned that 370 based boards for the 8700 processors are not compatible with Windows 7 installs. Looks like I'll be out the money for Windows 10 as well. 
 
I finally settled on the ASRock Z370 Pro4 Mobo, 8700k processor and the EVGA GTX-1080 8gig video card. All 3 are ordered and on the way!
