FTW3 ELITE With 12 GHz G5X and Gaming X Trio With Triple Fan Cooler

NVIDIA board partners are doing a really fantastic job with the custom GeForce GTX 1080 Ti designs and that needs to be acknowledged. Since its launch, the GTX 1080 Ti has been the undeniable king of the GPU performance throne and that seems to carry on until Volta arrives. Today, we have new cards from MSI and EVGA to detail that look undeniably amazing.

I never liked the looks of the MSI cards, but, I gotta say, in that 3 fan design, they just nailed it.

Performance specs aside it must be said these two cards look fantastic. Aesthetically the FTW3 was at the top of my list but that new MSI revision makes great use of design and colour with gun metal silver. Well done.

Other cards on my list include the GALAX HOF and ASUS ROG Strix. Speaking of which, where RGB is concerned, ASUS did a great job with their higher end Pascal card releases incorporating a lit up ROG logo on the backplate. Have any other AIB partners done something similar? I believe MSI had a special edition card with an RGB backplate but not sure about EVGA and the rest.

How exactly would the extra gig of memory make a difference? wouldnt the graphics card be out of juice by then anyway to run things at a decent framerate?

It is 1 gigahertz, not gigabyte. The extra speed allows for faster processing of the information that is being requested.

Think of it like a 4 lane highway. The original 1080ti had 10ghz vram... say that is 55mph.

Then the first upgrade came in.. 11ghz vram.. speed boost to 65...

Now this vram is out with 12ghz... or 75 mph speed limit. The highway is still 4 lanes, but your speed is faster.

    That's a good analogy Scarlet!
Do you know how it is achieved? I know they did a similar move on the 1080's. Is it a different RAM or more in the BIOS?
    I am curious.

For what Jacob stated in another thread, it's another brand memory chip.

Is there any way to update the bios on my EVGA 1080 Ti FTW 3 elite?

NVFlash can load different vbioses to your card.

Is there actual bios to update mine to 12 gigahertz?

Nope. EVGA_JacobF said these new cards use different memory chips than the older ones, so it's more than just a vbios update to get the 12 GHz.

yeah it can be new ram chips or revisions - as the silicon gets better they can push the speed limit
