Hello,
I am worried that my new gpu is running on higher idle temps than usual.
For now I keep the fans on auto:

My room temperature is around 22°C.
While playing Rainbow Six: Siege, temperature was 71°C
Case I am using is pretty spacious (Define R5) with 2 fans in front, 2 on top and one the back

Is this still considered normal idle temperature?
Thanks

Hello,
im running SC2 and my temps are quite similiar... around 50°C in idle and max. 67°C in games. I think it is just normal.

Not normal.

Here are the top causes of why a GPU would run at full clocks at idle...

#1 You're running multiple monitors. Fix: Enable mutil display power saver using nvidia inspector.
#2 Your machine has a virus. Fix: Scan computer using malwarebytes.
#3 One or more programs running in the background are using your GPU. Fix: Perform a clean boot of windows.
#4 Power management mode inside the nvidia control panel is set to prefer maximum performance. Fix: Set power management mode to adaptive then reboot your computer.
#5 Running a resolution of 2560x1440 @ 144Hz. Fix: Change refresh rate to 120Hz.
#6 K-Boost is enabled inside Precision X. Fix: Disable K-Boost.
#7 Shadowplay is enabled inside geforce experience. Fix: Disable shadowplay inside geforce experience OR completely uninstall geforce experience from your machine (highly recommended)

It's not normal, most of the time the gpu sensor reads 22-25C. The power and memory sensors normally read 29-33C. These are idle temps. The highest temps I've seen are 58-61C during intensive gaming. Even with the Windows power/NVCPL plans set to max performance, my card still idles at 135/305.

Something is keeping your GPU at a higher clock. That's not the idle clock.
Normally the clock should be like:

You can download the Process Explorer to find out what program is using GPU, try to close them one by one until you find out that bug program.
It's usually Google Chrome or Team Viewer. Try to disable the hardware acceleration.

I do have two monitors and one of them is G-Sync 1440p@144Hz
But that doesn't seem to effect temperature that much.
It turns out it was this:

#4 Power management mode inside the nvidia control panel is set to prefer maximum performance. Fix: Set power management mode to adaptive then reboot your computer.

After reboot GPU downclocks and temperature stays low!

Thanks guys!

@Sajin THANK YOU. I have noticed for the last couple weeks since I installed GPU-Z that my "idle temp" on my GeForce 1080 Ti was 52-53C. I did have an additional 4K television connected for 4K gaming, but like the poster, I had #4 set to maximum performance. I followed your brilliant advice and set it to "adaptive" and restarted my PC and my GPU idle temps have been between 29-31C. That's an impressive reduction. So I want to say a big loud THANK YOU! I appreciate you taking the time to provide expert replies to those of us that may not get all of this. I mean, if you ever need science/biological advice, as a molecular biologist, feel free! :-) Thank you again!

If your GPU is shooting up to 80C+ under water, you're doing something wrong.

^^ This

I have hybrid 1080ti FTW3 connected to a 1440p@165 Mhz (Gsync) and a second BenQ 1080P monitor connected too, idle temps are showing:

GPU: 25c
Power: 28c
Memory: 26c

Gaming in Rainbow Six Siege: I don't think I've seen it go above 50c (48c) on the GPU @2060Mhz (Gpu clock), Mem is +600. The power and mem temps are low 50s.
Gaming in Starwars Battlefront 2 the GPU temps are 50c-53c tops on load.

Ambient room temp is 20c.

Shroud fan is like 50-60%

Just like to add the shroud fan is 50-60% in games. In windows,  browsing the internet it's set to around 20-25% i would say.
