So I was searching the web again today because my GTX 970 card is still making a huge noise when it goes into overdrive. I then took a mirror and looked at the fans spinning inside (oops only one fan is spinning and probably has been since the beginning). Now I don't know what to do because the card was purchased in May of 2015. Any ideas? I have tried using the software and raising the fan speed to 100%. No luck. Unplugging and replugging in card, no luck. Not sure what to do now.

    Welcome to the Forum foxdenvixen
What Model Number *Part Number is your GTX 970 Graphics Card?
Request an RMA as your card comes with a 3 Year Warranty.
Have you installed (EVGA PrecisionX 16) https://www.evga.com/precisionx/ and set a Fan Curve?

I'd recommend looking for an identical replacement cooler on ebay if you're out of warranty.

The model number is 04G-P4-3975-KR. It was purchased from newegg.com on 5-8-2015. I did install the software and set a fan curve. It doesn't help with the one fan that won't move. I have manually moved it and it seems fine but won't rotate on its own.

    Try this...

#1 Remove GPU fan shroud and make sure the GPU fan cable is fully seated and secure to the GPU PCB fan header.

#2 Make sure the card is fully seated to the MB. Make sure the PCI-E power cables are fully seated and secure at the PSU side & GPU side.

#3 Uninstall all monitoring software. (Precision, Afterburner, Speedfan, HWMonitor, etc.)

#4 Perform a clean installation of the most recent video drivers:
    • Uninstall Precision X/MSI Afterburner if installed, make sure to select "no" to saving profiles if asked.  Reboot the PC now if you had to uninstall PX or Afterburner.
    • Use DDU (Display driver uninstaller) in safe mode to clean out all your nvidia drivers. Use the clean and restart (highly recommended) option.
    • Download & save the most recent graphics driver to your desktop. You can find the most recent graphics driver here.
    • Run the graphics installer located on your desktop once the download is complete.
    • Select custom advanced install, under custom installation options uncheck all options except graphics driver & physx system software, if you have a 3D capable monitor and would like to use 3D at some point please select both 3D options, check mark perform clean install, then click next to install the driver, reboot when asked.
If you're still having problems after performing steps 1-4 RMA the card as the fan/fan controller on the GPU has a problem.

dBi - dB Noise Inverter turns fans off below 60C, generating 0dB of noise during idle!
This enhanced model offers improved cooling, double BIOS support support.

Change to the Other Bios, With the Computer Powered OFF and Unplugged.

Fox. 2 years ago you bought the card. It has a 3 year warranty. If the above fixes do not help, submit an RMA request, and EVGA will take care of you.

*Edited title. Put an "O" to signify "Out of luck" instead. The way it was, violated the TOS for masking bad language.

could find fans at ebay like suggested here

    https://forums.evga.com/Is-it-possible-to-buy-new-cooling-fans-for-the-EVGA-GTX970-AC20-FTW-m2713471.aspx

thing is you need a known working gpu fan  to test with  to see if one of the fans on your card just is bad    or something with the card  causing the fan/ fans not to work .

I use a old fan from a amd 6850   just pulg it up and run the card and see its behavior   if the card is good the fan should work as any normal stock fan   if the fan fails to work as normal maybe something wrong in the card ??

then if you see its just one fan went bad and under warrantee may see if evga would just send you a replacement fan   instead of all that rma process and down time ?

in the end like the others said the card is under evga warrantee    thing is will you get a new card back or a referb or what they conceder the ''next best  equal to ''    10 series like trade it out for a gtx 1050 or something ??

thing is if you determine   cant see why evga cant just  slip a fan in a envelop  and sent it to you  instead of rma'ing the whole card  [I was told they [evga] will not ?? ] must rma the whole card  ????

one guy did say in that post I linked evga did send one to him ??    may depend on how feel that day or who you deal with on that

    good luck

So I did the RMA for my card. Did the cross ship to get a new one. Installed the new card. Working as intended. Shipped back the old card through UPS with insurance purchased as recommended. Now I get an email saying that the card arrived damaged. Supposedly the bracket has damage on it. It was damaged when I dropped it off with UPS. They took pictures of the damage but I have not been able to view this damage as the links say file does not exist. They also say I have to pay $10 to repair the damage. I don't know what to think. Since I did the cross ship, I want the money I paid for the cross ship but I also don't want to pay for something I didn't damage. If there is damage, it was caused by UPS and I thought that is why I paid for insurance on it.

"It was damaged when I dropped it off with UPS" then $10.00 is not so bad.
Did you take any photos before you packet it to ship and did you take any photos after you packet it as well?

Oops sorry. It was NOT damaged when I dropped it off. No, I did not take pictures of the card before I sent it back.

I want to view this damage but can't at this time. Plus I don't know how to pay the $10. The links don't work right now.

be nice for then to show you the damage   + how the shipping box arrived   [like if IPS took it around back for ''further processing ''   or used it to hold up under  a guys new anvil  in the UPS truck

moral of this is   '' Did you take any photos before you packet it to ship and did you take any photos after you packet it as well?''   anymore you got to protect yourself in everyway  with that kinda proof if ever needed
    wow....

bottom line with any rma  is the ball is never in your court   , at any time for any reason they [evga,  for example  use]  can claim ''end user abuse''    and your all ways 100% at there mercy

though what I see from guys dealing with evga this is kinda rare ,I  seen some pictures of some pretty junked / damaged cards that claimed evga took no question .  maybe now a days  times are tight at evga and they have to use more scrutiny  then past ??

me I just don't do rmas I just  call it junk add to trash go to newegg add replacement part to cat

like said above just 10 bucks  to recoup full cost ???    that's still cheap compared to a new card if they just were to tell you no  on it all   . like sajin hints I would contact evga support and see if you catch there guy in a good mood , they may just forgive it all ???
