The 5th Challenge of the 2017 Challenge series is a 5 day challenge to celebrate Number Theory Week 2017. The challenge is being offered on the 321 Prime Search (LLR) application.

To participate in the Challenge, please select only the 321 Prime Search (LLR) project in your PrimeGrid preferences section. The challenge will begin 3rd September 2017 18:00 UTC and end 8th September 2017 18:00 UTC.

This is another LLR CPU challenge. Intel with AVX and better will do well.
They may run warmer than other tasks, like the last challenge. So watch OC and temps.
These are long tasks, so Multithread will be the way to go.

I'll do some testing and see how things go.

There will be a 4 hour overlap at the end of the next FB sprint and the beginning of PG Number Theory Week.

I will be Ready, Thanks for the update.
With FB Sprint not providing enough time before they start each one is making it hard to manage from a remote location.
Having to Stop running any Projects up to 2 days before they start to allow current Project tasks to complete is what is killing me.
Settings the BOINC Client to 1 + 2 is what killed me so new lesson here is because one Project needs to download like SZTAKI Desktop Grid and even maybe Leiden Classical as well.
Next time I will only set to .5 and .5 and if I get tasks or not this well let me manage from remote much easer.

    Exactly,
I was away before the last sprint was announced and had with 5 rigs ready to remote into. One had no gpu so I shut it down, 2 were linux mint and 2 windoze. My problem was with the linux/980ti box because when the app_config was added remotely, restarting the boinc client did not activate it. In fact a new boinc manager opened with none of my projects listed and could not add any. I tried a reboot but lost the remote connection. So, being faced with the same situation on the other linux machine I decided not to add the appconfig and just ran single wu's.
The windows rigs worked perfectly on boinc restart.

    This is my app_config with a 6 core/12 thread i7-4930K  4,2ghz  HT on.
I may turn HT off to save some electric and less heat, I hope.
But for now, 1 unit running 12 threads multithread  87% done in 2h 21m with 20m 40sec left to go.
If the total is much different, I will edit this post

Total time 2:41:36  Shows the est time to be spot on too.

    OK 6 cores running MT
When done looking at the tasks with BOINC mgr., it is best to click on projects or notices and not leave tasks page open.
Even if you minimize the window, it still uses resources to keep the page up to date. Every bit counts.

    85% done 2:03:30   00:20:53 left to go
2:25:00 finished task, 6 cores MT

So it looks like 6 cores is faster. But, I am not sure if every task is the same size.
I know some projects the tasks are different sizes. Will have to look into it.
But seems like doing 6 won't hurt production much if at all......

Used Remote Desktop, forgot all about it. Note it stops the GPU from Running, waiting to see if it starts backup after closing out *Not Logging Off.
All set for PG as posted above by Bill using 6

What a Pain, to get my GPU back I had to set the computer to Auto Logon and Put the BOINC Client in the Startup Folder.
Then I also have to set the BOINC Client to allow remote to check if it worked or not.

Yeah remote desktop kills the GPU tasks.

I noticed with remote desktop, a couple computers when I hit the start button I can reboot or shut down the comp.
On other computers I do not have those options, only log off.
Anyone know why, what I did to those and did not do to the others?
    They are all win10pro
Computers, I swear they have a mind of their own and do as they damn well please.

On the ones you do not see it go to the "Windows Security" from their you can restart or log off the computer.

Yeah, not nice at all, but not all bad news..
NAS is dead, I put the drives into the same model chassis (I have 2 exactly the same) and was able to copy all the data across to another NAS, YAY. Took all night but is done.
The water cooled rig had what looks like cotton wool inside the water blocks and pipes, weird never seen that before.
It has also formed inside the spare bottle that I have..
Phobya ZuperZero UV Green was what I used, Looks like a complete strip down and clean everything and start again.

Any Suggestions on why this happed?? or what to use so it does not happen again??

    Much appreciated.

I had a system freeze and I had to do a hard reboot, system was down 10 hours or so.
Sorry about that. I hate when that happens.
Sure would be nice if someone on our team finds a 321 prime. it will be 4 million digits long.

I would call their cust service and let them know this happened.
That does not look good at all.

Never nice when that happens, strangely enough I also had one go offline last night.
Hope that it does not happen to either of us again.

Post so nice you had to post it twice.

Taking a closer look at that computer, I see it had 4 invalid tasks going back to the last challenge. 4 out of 40 tasks, 10% not good!
I upgraded the ram, and set it to its rated speed 2133, 9-11-11-31
I raised it to 10-11-11-32. I thought 9 was low for 2133. If it runs stable at cas 10, I'll still be happy. I'll shoot for T1
Got it for good price, used off a forum sales section.
Never has an issue before I upgraded, but still lowered the CPU speed 4.3 down to 4.1ghz
It is warm in here and running a little slower, less voltage, I want it stable....
I'll play with it when Winter comes.

There's too many Germans, rats with pink eyes, and some team I can't pronounce their name in the top 10 spots.

I was out of town and tried to get PG started but my app_config didn't take for MT tasks.
Got everything worked out now and will do my best to salvage some points.

Any Suggestions on why this happed?? or what to use so it does not happen again??

    Much appreciated.

It's probably just a buildup of bacteria. Do you have a silver coil installed in your loop? If not get one of those (Or use a biocide in addition to the fluid), and yeah, flush the system.

No I do not have a silver coil installed, now looking to order one. Thanks.

The photo is from a bottle I used about 50ml out of it, then it has sat on the shelf not been touched since filling the system, weird...
