So I went ahead and got the ASUS TUF MARK 1,feelin a little dirty but my poor X58 SLI is really starting to have problems and needed a replacement/upgrade to a newer platform. However if the price is right on the DARK and reviews are good ill prob sell my TUF and get the DARK.

Sometimes you have to buy something you don't want when something breaks down but I believe EVGA motherboards are good quality if you want to wait.

AMD Ryzen 9 7950X,  Corsair Mp700 Pro M.2, 64GB Corsair Dominator Titanium DDR5  X670E Steel Legend, MSI RTX 4090 Associate Code: H5U80QBH6BH0AXF. I am NOT an employee of EVGA

I agree. I'm actually on a Z270 Classified K but I purposely waited for this board to be released. The board is super stable never had an issue with it.. EVGA highly recommended if you decide to switch over!

I'm in a similar situation except my X58 classified is fine. I really want to upgrade but can't decide on exactly what I want to do since everything isn't totally out yet.

    same X58 user,
    I can't decide between 1950x or 7900x.
I do like the EVGA X299 Dark a lot, but Intel is weak right now.

I'm thinking coffee lake and z370 is my best bet if everything shapes out to be what it's looking like from leaks. I'm anxious to see what Intel releases on Monday about coffee lake and I think z370.

Coffee Lake will be logic choice of all smart gamers.
What gamers need more than GTX1080 and Coffee Lake.
Together they could fit easy in small case as EVGA Hadron and don't even need ATX PSU.
AMD RX Vega 64 need more power than whole RIG.

We can say that Intel fail to launch nice successor of X79 and X99 platform and hurry and made some mistakes as number of PCI-E lanes, prices and flux solder. Except that they don't have successor compatible with same socket because Kaby Lake-X is launched with 4 cores. That probably mean shorter life time than X79 and X99 before new architecture.
Coffee Lake-X could be launched 12 months after 8th generation show up before Cannon Lake.
I don't know how many people who are gamers on first place will pay 1000$ for CPU.
If some gamers think to do that It would be nice to have watercooling, because overclocked i9-7900X could give nice performance in games. But he is expensive and generally slower than competition for same price. Example overclocked to 4.6-4.7 GHz could be looked as nice gaming CPU, single threaded performance in Geekbench over 6.000, but ultra expensive, his price should be half, they are far weaker in Cinebench and real work than AMD, and paying 1000$ for weaker CPU is hard.
Someone to give me to choose between AMD 1950X and i9-7900X... I don't know... really.

I was planning to upgrade from my actual x79 I7 3820 to x299 I7 7800, but, for the price, and not so new features on the platform, I will be waiting for the z370 platform.

I know z370 it's not going to have any major updates (it's more likely a refresh of the z270 chipset), but, the price usually is more reasonable compared to the x299, and also, I will be only gaming on the RIG, so a 8700K 6 cores is more then enought for another 5 years.

    Case: Asus Z370-G Box / MB: Asus Z370-G / CPU: Intel I7 8700K / Mem.: 16GB (2x8) 3000Mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 / GPU: GTX 1080TI FTW3 / A.I.O. W.C: EVGA CLC280 / PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750W

Yah I was thinking of x299 for a while and it sounds great with possibly having 18 cores. After thinking about it though it's just not financially or realistically worth it unless you're using it heavily for a workstation. Mainly for the price but the performance for just doing rather simpler tasks and gaming won't see much of a usable benefit. 6 cores for what seems to be around $300-$400 and good performance thats great. I believe that rumors for z370 have 28 pci lanes? Which would be fine with me having full access to a GPU and adding m.2.

Well, I really think the best option for now is keep waiting.
Intel is so messed up, Coffee Lake-S might looks like a good choice with the upgraded 6 core, but the motherboards are not.
With the Coffee Lake-S release, you can only buy motherboard with Kaby Lake Refresh PCH, like maybe Z370.
Then soon, only a few months later, they want to release new motherboards with Cannon Lake PCH, like maybe called Z380.

That could be true but anything will be a pretty decent improvement from what I have now. Waiting is always the better option because in this industry there's always "something better" in the works or coming soon. Waiting is always a good idea but at some point you have to just see what's out there and get something or you'll always be waiting. I want to see what intel has to say on monday and go by that but if coffee lake and z370 look to be pretty good I think i'll go with it. I mean a 6 core 12 thread cpu with a good chipset like z370 sounds like, that is plenty for me and even now with z270 and a 7700k I would be happy with that i'm sure but with coffee lake being so close to a release (hopefully) then I can wait a little longer. I mainly have a upgrade/build bug now after I was talking to some people about their upgrades, Its only been like 6 years or so since I upgraded haha.

    That's exactly what I think.
Since I'm not going to do any real heavy work for the CPU, 6 cores 12 threads makes more sense for a new build for gaming only.
One thing I will not be surprised for, is that 8700K hardly will outperform the 7700K, because of the slower clock. But still, even a coffee lake I5 will be faster then my I7 3820 .

Also, the z270 platform have pretty decent features, so, the only thing I would ask for the manufacturers is to add a dual slot m.2, even at an ITX MB.

It is said that the 8700K will come with 24 PCIe lanes - http://wccftech.com/intel-coffee-lake-8th-gen-cpu-300-series-platform-details-leak/ - For my build, since I don't plan to SLI, it's perfect (16x GPU / 4+4 dual m.2 Raid0 [Hell, even if you SLI, you would lose only 2/3% performance using 8+8x on GPU, and would still have lanes to use 8 other spare pcie lanes]).

    Case: Asus Z370-G Box / MB: Asus Z370-G / CPU: Intel I7 8700K / Mem.: 16GB (2x8) 3000Mhz Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 / GPU: GTX 1080TI FTW3 / A.I.O. W.C: EVGA CLC280 / PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750W

Coffee Lake is great reason to people back to Hadron build.
That's real case for him, special if customers could survive with GTX1080 not GTX1080Ti and most gamers can.
Hadron with i7-8700K and GTX1080 and EKWB A240kit with GeForce waterblock and small DCC Reservoir combo could be installed instead HDD bay on SSD mounting bracket for two SSDs.
I always have great plans and recommendation for gamers for attractive builds.

That's pretty much what I was thinking also. Not sure how much of a performance loss whould happen with going 8x on sli but from what I've read it doesn't seem to be a whole lot of a difference. I just want to know when Intel plans on actually having things available for people so I can start planning and buying.

IMO, Hadron series would need an update. Hadron V. II, something like this.
Keep the ITX design, but make it wider, at least to fit a FTW3 / Hybrid Kit / Custom Water Loop or CLC 280 / 240 / 120. And indeed, this would be a nice case for the Coffee Lake build.

Performance would be less than 5% on x8 (It's not that much).
Let's see what Intel will say at monday, 21. Hope we will be having full specs about the Coffee Lake and also ETA for these hitting the market.

Can't go wrong with ASUS, but I would have gone with X399 Zenith. That motherboard is a thing of beauty! Also, the 1950X looks better than anything Intel has ever made.

Finally finished my build a couple of days ago.Working out so far 7820x does get a little warm but I have it overclocked 4.8Ghz at 1.275v on one 360mm rad with a GTX 1080 on the loop too.I might add a 120mm RAD on the back.

Nice! Yah if you can add a 120MM in the back go for it, it's only going to help!

    same X58 user,
    I can't decide between 1950x or 7900x.
I do like the EVGA X299 Dark a lot, but Intel is weak right now.

how do you come to the conclusion Intel is weak. Intel chips destroy the new AMD ones in every benchmark out there.

Do you live behind a rock?
Skylake-X cant even beat Broadwell-E in some games - Intel is in comparison with Threadripper in 90% of the usecases(except games) behind Amd

No need to be sorry for not waiting or for buying a better product. ASUS gives you more features all around, releases products on time and costs less.

I'd add the largest 2nd radiator you can; the 120 will help but something bigger would do better. Looks good though and I'm glad you're happy with the build!

well I love my x99 and it is running like a dream my x99 classified has not let me down yet. I set it up whin I over clocked it and it is still set the same way over a year later . 5960x at 4,78g smiles. 4/way sli with titan x /pascals in all games every thing. so do want a I9 7980xe 18core and a evga x299 dark to see what I can get it to do. but if it takes to long after the cpu comes out I might go get the asrock os board . these are the only 2 boards I would think of use sing because of having 4/way sli support. I will not ever have a asus board again lol
