Are you looking for a 1440/1080p 21:9 Ultra-Wide or a 16:9 4K?  Also is this for gaming, production work, or both?  Are you looking for a high refresh rate with G-sync?  Answers to those will really help narrow it down for you.

Some suggestions for the current top tier monitors:

1440p ultra wide there are really only two to choose from that have specs that meet great gaming specs and are decent for productivity featuring high refresh rates with G-Sync and IPS panels.

    ASUS

    ACER

Just keep in mind the QC issues with IPS panels currently.  There have been lots of issues with backlight bleed and such.

There is a Dell 27" 16:9 ratio monitor with G-Sync for around mid $400's.  It's not an IPS pannel so the QC woes are not there but the color is not bad for it being a TN pannel either from what I hear.  May be a good choice if those 1440p ultrawides are out of your budget.

The Dell S2716DGR .  Is a good choice for a more budget minded but performance required range of gaming monitors.
