Found a really good deal on NvMe drive. Instructions look like an easy install with X99 FTW-K. Is the upgrade even worth it? Thanks

Loading stuff; not so much of a difference. Reading and writing large files...yeah there's a big difference. It all depends on what you use it for mostly. For me, it's definitely worth it but for like home office use? I wouldn't bother.

Made the move to the 960 Pro 512. Following EVGA's instructions to the letter about setting up NVMe. When setting up CSM...make sure everything is set to UEFI and you're good.

nice speeds, My 960 evo is right behind it on speed, but large sustained writes though the pro kills everything 10 fold

Kind of makes me wonder how reliable these numbers actually are when my 840 Pro using Rapid Mode are these. Using the same settings of 4 runs @ 100MB >

Benchmarks for SSD's always give mixed results on my 960 evo 1TB. If i use Samsung Magician software to optimize the drive, i get results like this one. Without doing that, i get results like this.

Rapid mode uses a RAM cache for the drive, you are seeing the speed of your RAM not the drive. Turn it off to see the actual drive performance.

I'm aware of how it works. My point was, how reliable is the software at giving accurate numbers as well as sparking thought and viewpoints. The software is still looking at the SSD for it's data regardless of how it's set up. So even though rapid mode uses a ram cache, the software still shows the SSD performing at the numbers it shows in the interface.

I have used both SSDs and NVMe for boot drives and quite frankly the NVMe drive results are far superior.

Are you running your 960 right on the board, or are you using an adapter in a pcie slot?

It is running on my X99 FTW K in the m.2 slot. No adaptor for me...
