Hi all, I recently purchased a 1080ti sc2 hybrid. At first it didn't boost properly until I changed the settings to prefer maximum power, and it still doesn't boost for world of warcraft. However now I can't get it to downclock and its at a minimum of 1556mhz, and it goes up to 1967mhz when i play all games except WoW. What can I do to get it to downclock again other than reinstalling drivers and hoping for the best? Also my monitors are an Asus P278Q ROG Swift 144hz 1440p, and a generic asus 1080p 60hz monitor.

It's been a bug for a long time for >120Hz monitors. Set Windows to 120Hz on your 144Hz monitor and in games set it for 144Hz.

    My multi-monitor set-up with PG279Q @ 165Hz and BenQ G2110W 1680x1050 @ 60Hz~ can still downclock to 240MHz though, but I think 139Mhz is normally minimum.
This both happens with DWM enabled and disabled on Windows 7, but Windows 8 and 10 normally cannot disable DWM without breaking things.
DWM causes a bigger GPU workload so the GPU will clock up much more than with DWM disabled.
My old 780Ti however couldn't do that, it really needed to stick to 120Hz on the desktop.

Also the latest 385.28 WHQL driver has fixed Doom not downclocking on GPU's, I guess, even though the patch notes mention the GTX1070, I've seen other type of GPU's reporting the same issue afaik.

Changes and Fixed Issues in Version 385.28
[GeForce GTX 1070][Doom]: The GPU clocks remain running at high performance speeds after exiting from the game. [1954033]

So if you play that it might be worth installing too.

I run two monitors, main is a 144 hz monitor and secondary is a 120 hz. Works a treat for me, card downclocks nicely at idle.

You also should run Nvidia Control Panel - Adaptive

Make sure "K" boost is Not On

Following the nvidia inspector method and setting to adaptive seems to have worked. The card still doesn't boost for wow though which i find weird.

    Does Doom play well ?

Is there a game issue ?

I can't say about doom, but games like GTA5, and PUBG run great (also bioshock infinite). Though a 1080ti should be able to play wow on max settings at 1440p handily though and I can't come close.

Enabling kboost should make the card boost inside wow.

I tried enabling K Boost but it makes me close wow and then caps my card at 600mhz

Odd. Are you enabling kboost before playing wow?

The card shouldn't get stuck at 600 mhz when enabling kboost. You're not suppose to enable kboost while any 3d apps are running. Kboost should always be enabled before launching any 3d apps. What version of precision xoc are you using? Do older versions of precision xoc make the card get stuck at 600 mhz when enabling kboost?

What should work (at work atm so can't verify) is to leave the settings in nvidia control panel at adaptive under power settings to have it at "2d clocks" and then adding a profile for your games, under the profile change power plan to "prefer maximum performance".

This is good advice, however, the prefer maximum performance settings doesn't force the gpu to boost. The prefer maximum performance setting only keeps the card from dropping below its base clock.

I have the newest version, unless one has dropped within a week. Also it won't activate if I have any 3d programs running because Precision XOC won't boost if I even have spotify open for some reason.

Time to try some older versions of precision xoc. You could also try to lock your voltage to the 1093 mv range inside msi afterburners voltage/frequency curve editor to see if it also sets your gpu to 600 mhz when locked. The locking feature inside afterburner works just like kboost.
