I have a 980ti and would like to know if I should add another for SLI or upgrade to a 1080TI to play VR. I downloaded the test and it states 980ti is the weak link.

I ran 2 tests and passed both with my sli. I can tell you running my system against my son's with a newer i7 and his FTW 1080, he is only about 5% faster in most bench marks. So look at the cost but also look at maybe going with another 1080 in sli down the road.

That is me in the picture, anyone else ever pet a live Lion?

I don't have the 1080. I have a 980ti. Was wondering if it would make a difference in VR if I SLI the 980ti? Or sell it and get a 1080ti?

well that guy said  and going by his posted build specs  he tested  his 2 970 cards in sli with his sons 1080 and his son was only 5% better ?

now id a 9890 ti to be used for sli worth the price to performance  ??     see that's the dilemma   / catch 22  -  maybe great and some folks will claim that.  then you buy the card ansd see its did not do too much fior you  and thy were just filling your ears full of fluff ??    then it may depend on the programs your running if there well optimized for sli  .  my little joke is SLI = S-udden L-oss of I-ncome , ya, I did SLI ''once''  learned just one powerful single card is a lot less hassle / maintenance  / cost /cleaning / power , ect.... [ALL just a opinion ]

I guess you could look at forums wherer this was brought up and make a conclusion on what YOU feel is best ?

like anything its got its pro's and cons and cost factors   , and only you can determine whats best for you in the end

    good luck

How well a pair of 980ti's in SLI would do in VR would depend on how well the VR program you are running is optimized for SLI. Technically on paper it would be better but not all games\programs would benefit from it. You would be better off getting a single 1080ti and selling your 980ti to offset the cost of the 1080ti. 980ti's are going for $250-$350 US right now if in good shape. the 1080ti would also help future proof your system. Pascal is newer silicon\tech than Maxwell.

Is this VR test from NVidia or Steam's ? I know on Steam's test it showed my single (at the time) 980ti was more than enough for VR . I'll look to see if NVidia has a test & try it . I'm running 2 cards myself at the present . Edit : I found I need to install GeForce Experience , no thanks ...
