I have an x99 MOBO that is in need of a CPU, FTW K to be exact. The only reason I have this board is because I purchased another x99 MOBO for a good price and now I have 2 (not both FTW's though) The other MOBO is going to be my daily driver and the FTW will be a crunching rig. I have the CPU for the daily already and am piecing the rest together slowly. Another question is amount and speed of RAM recommended too.

TLDR;
Good bang for buck (thinking inexpensive) 2011-3 CPU for crunching and quantity and speed of RAM preferred for a crunching rig.

    monoprice or newegg have new i7-6850k running at ~$360 right now on ebay, pretty decent deal if you're still looking for a cpu.

    Some of the older E3 series CPUs are inexpensive, and cost effective for crunching usage.

    Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
     I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

    Do the E5 Xeons work on the FTW boards?  You could always pick up an ES processor from ebay for dirt cheap?  You know there is going to be another server farm dump soon and E5 V3 or V4 processors will flood the market and X99 boards will have their prices sky rocket like the X79 boards did haha.  Contemplating upgrading to X99 or X399, as X299 just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    The v3 should work, the v4 xeon CPUs I do believe are locked.
    Intel learned from the x58, x79 xeons competing with new CPU sales.
