The delidding process was complicated and unfortunately generated the CPU useless. However, the most interesting part of this video is the fact that Threadripper has four Ryzen dies, same as EPYC. AMD assures that only 2 dies are used. So technically it’s possible that we might see 32-core Threadripper one day.. either officially or manually unlocked.

Interesting.  Should Intel add pressure with something new...they can just enable the other two cores and volley back.

I would like to see Intel set their X299 to allow 2 CPU Sockets an and I would be a Happy Camper.
Being not happy with my Ryzen Single CPU I think now I would not even bother with this new AMD CPU.

Memory Can only run at 2133 MHz and only 2 Sticks allow 32GB. 4 Sticks even at 2133 MHz fail.
CPU Runs to Hot Even under a Custom Water Loop. Can really only run 4000MHz and have to turn of SMT (HT)
Motherboard Temperature Runs hotter than the CPU Temperatures.
Maybe this is all based on having an MSI Motherboard but still overall not happy with the Ryzen 7 1800X CPU

Everything you wrote there points to the MB as the culprit. Is there a BIOS update for your MB model that can maybe resolve at least some of the issues you are experiencing?

No their is no fix coming, the Main Issue with all Ryzen 7 Motherboards and CPU is that the XMP Profiles are meant for Intel CPUs.
I check Everyday for a New Bios.
MSI Bios Suck as their support on their Ryzen 7 Motherboards that is all their is to it.

Good to know. I was considering an MSI board but if that's the case maybe I should stick with ASUS, afterall. Mind you I did hear some negative feedback about them, as well. It's all a gamble, nowadays.

im just thinking they could use crippled chips- like only2 cores on each running to salvage more chips - less wastage

I am in the same boat you are with an MSI motherboard and the memory stuck at 2133MHZ but I am hoping for new AGESA updates that will resolve this. I talked to my memory provider who says that MSI motherboards are the most problematic when it comes to RYZEN memory overclocking. I might consider another memory provider and sell this set. I have to think about it.

I use the Corsair H115i AIO cooler and with folding at home which puts the CPU at max load my temps are 75C. The temps never get close to that while gaming. I don't have air conditioning and it is summer.

AGESA is an acronym for “AMD Generic Encapsulated System Architecture", and it is essentially the foundational code on which BIOS files for AM4 motherboards are built.

AMD has already distributed the AGESA 1.0.0.6 to its motherboard partners, so BIOS updates should be available starting in mid to late June. Having said that, there are apparently beta versions currently available for the ASUS Crosshair VI and GIGABYTE GA-AX370-Gaming 5.

The problem isn't with your CPU. The problem is with MSI. Seems to me they didn't follow through as did other AM4 board partners.

Sadly, I think it's just that MSI board and bios.

I know the Ryzen motherboards have had their problems early on but I do have a ASrock mb that runs memory at full speed of 3200mhz. I know a friend of mine has an Asus Hero AM4 that's running his 1800x at 3200mhz also. It seems to vary with each company, but MSI has always been bad at bios releases as far as I'm concerned.

IDK about the 1800X but my 1700X idles at 29-30C on water overclocked to 3.8ghz, and games at a steady 43-45C, and the highest I've seen yet is 49C...which is 12C cooler than my 4790K ran on the same applications.

I bought 1 MSI board and while the board was great, the bios was NOT. It seems that hasn't changed, at least for AM4.

Anyway, I really do think you'd have a better experience with a different board from a different manufacturer.

Another MB would end up being $700 or $800 in the End, so no new MB for me.
It is running the GPU primarily for Folding and Crunching so for now it is workable.
I started of with MSI years go and moved on to ASUS then on to Dell AW.
Then Back in the Game with EVGA and Duel Run with ASUS and liked EVGA and stayed with them for Intel Motherboards for that point on.

AGESA 1.006a is the latest one I have for the ASRock.
The memory problems were supposed to be fixed with the 1.0.06 and above AGESA update.

One thing to keep in mind is, and you're probably aware of this already but it's worth mentioning, is that the DDR4 runs at 1.2v at the lower speeds but for 3200mhz it needs the 1.35.
Mine actually didn't run stable at 3200mhz until I bumped the voltage to 1.3625.

IDK maybe give that a try if you haven't already.
Edit: IDK if you've tried this but there's also been discussions of disabling GDM (gear down mode) under the memory settings to get the speed up.

Two i7-7740K in a dual socket mobo would be sick. Too bad they didnt include avx-512 or quad channel memory.

Probably the fact that they initially said it was a 2 die chip, and it is actually a 4 die chip.

It looks like threadripper might be an EPYC CPU with some of the cores turned off

I don't know why anyone expected anything otherwise. Amd has done this with CPUs for many years. It just makes sense to make epyc cpus, then those CPUs that fail validation testing go into the fuse and rebrand pile for threadripper.

Makes more sense to have a single manufacturing line make 4 die chips instead of setting up two different ones.

Plus, this route gives them the option of making a 32 core threadripper part available fairly easily in the future.

Record your finding, and request a return to MSI as defective.
    Buy the ASUS mobo.
