Hope this is in the right place but I'm looking for some feedback.

I put my current system together over a year ago now and when I bought the CPU all that was available was the I7 6700 skylake Non K version. Now looking back I think I made a bad decision and should have waited for the 6700K version. With my base clock at 3.4 Ghz and my boost clock hitting 4.0 Ghz on the non k version, would it be worth it now to go back and snag a 6700K and overclock it with my 1080ti SC2 hybrid. Seems like a 4.5-4.6 boost clock on the K version is very stable (from what I've read) and it has a higher base clock at 4.0 Ghz...

I know I won't see a lot, if any, improvement in gaming and FPS right now but I'm more thinking a year or two down the line still having a system that's capable of keep up with the latest games.

Right now it kind of feels like I have an F1 race car as my GPU and it's stuck on a dirt track with (my CPU)...

System specs:
Corsair 460X RGB
Intel Core i7-6700k 4.4Ghz OC
Gigabyte Z170 G5 max (MB)
32GB G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series DDR4 3200
Corssair H100i V2
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2
Evga GeForce 1080 TI SC2 Hybrid
2x 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSHD (raid 0)
WD 1TB Black

Hello. Realistically that CPU would not hold back the card unless you are running at a lower resolution. What is the monitor and resolution you are using? I personally have zero perfromance issues with my i5 and 1080 Ti, but I do game at 4k almost exclusively.

I'm running two ACER Predator 27" 2K IPS monitors, however I only game on one at at time (no wrap around).
I honestly don't think I'll see improvements now, but the longevity of the system is more my concern/goal. However it's also fun to upgrade :)

Another question or point of interest I have is that while playing BF1 on 2K my CPU is usually at 95% to 100% maxed out all the time...I know BF1 is demanding, but after all the optimization I would have thought my CPU would be in a lower usage range. My temps on the H100I V2 while playing the game is at 58-60C while playing. I'm also only seeing my CPU boost to 3.7 Ghz...

You'll be fine. No sense in upgrading to the same socket what so ever. They release new designs so frequently that by the time upgrading would show worth while performance increase for spending money you'll need a new motherboard.

I've never upgraded my CPU without switching to a new socket design mobo and considering how YUGE the gap is between CPU performance in games to what is actually needed it's not happening any time soon.

Well I didn't need to go from a 980ti Classified to a 1080Ti SC2 hybrid, but I really wanted all AIO's on my stuff so it happened lol.

I kind of want to go to the K version so I can play with the overclock (since I've not done that yet on an i7). Hell, my Gfx card is overclocked, my memory is overclocked and even my monitor is overclocked...why not get a CPU to OC as well???

Honestly I don't have a clue why I didn't get the K version in the first place...maybe it wasn't available at that time.

Well I got a good deal on a new i6700K so I snagged it. Probably will sell the 6700 soon as I don't need both and I should be set for a while. I figure the next upgrade will be after AMD and Intel finish the battle of the threads (PCIe) and I might move back to an AMD after over 15 years of intel...
