So this may seem rather odd, but I'm on Windows 10 with an 780i FTW and the highest compatible drivers for my EVGA 660 Ti SC is 365.10.  If I use anything newer than that, DDU or not, my computer instantly crashes when playing World of Warcraft.

OS: Windows 10 Pro 1511 x64
RAM: 8GB (4 x 2GB) Corsair Dominators 800MHz
PSU: PC Power and Cooling 750W
CPU: Q6600
HDDs: Sandisk 240GB SSD Plus and WD Black 640GB
GPU: EVGA 660 Ti SC
WiFi: D-Link WDA-2320

Not sure if I'm missing anything.

Does this happen with any other game? It's possible some configuration within the newer drivers, your card, and WoW are causing this problem. I would also recommend installing just the driver and PhysX when installing the driver, as it may be some other component, like the HD Audio driver, that's causing this issue.

Well, Firefox with GPU acceleration also causes the computer to do the same issue.  Although I leave acceleration off so I haven't tested it in quite some time.

There are three outcomes I tend to get, though.

    1.  The computer completely freezes.
    2.  The computer loses display, does not recover, but is soft locked.  Sometimes cap locks and etc. function but the computer is non-responsive.
    3.  It reboots.

Also, upgrading Windows 10 is not an option, as Microsoft ships out a nonfunctional WiFi stack with newer versions.

The 660 ti is compatible with 384.76. Do you experience the same issue when using windows 7? Have you reported your problem to nvidia? If no, you can file a report here.

I don't have a license of Windows 7.  Though what I plan on doing is taking my mechanical drive offline and install Windows 8.1 on it and put it through a week long trial to see if I can replicate it.  I honestly think Windows 10 is far too unstable on the rig, as Anniversary causes the computer to go into a kernel panic attack whenever the WiFi faults.  I figure I might as well ask here to see if it anyone else has any experience.

Edit: I should jokingly add the most graphically intensive game Blizzard has is the download bar to their Battle.net (now Blizzard) app.  Overheated a laptop and repeatedly crashed my desktop with stock nVIDIA drivers that 10 came with.

Windows 10 Pro 1511 x64 You now need at least 1607

Nope. The latest drivers only require 1511. The driver would tell the op "this graphics driver isn't compatible with this version of windows" if it required a version higher than 1511.

Anyways, the latest driver still crashes with Windows 8.1 even with the minimal installed (only the driver and PhysX).  Only difference is that the computer is responsive to commands, so I can properly shut it down.  Only thing is that the computer now complains about a USB failure, even though all my devices are working properly.

I am by no means an expert on windows 10 as microsoft  changes it more often than any other operating system in the history of computing.
!607 was in my opinion the most stable as 1703 the creators update still has issue.
Most of the error messages and crashes more than likely the results of power settings, sleep-hybrid sleep, secure boot, fast boot,
    and drivers-software.
On every major win10 build or gpu updates things can and will go amok and on every gforce or os update, things need to be rechecked-reset.
The list; power options, pcie- set to moderate or off (max power savings may underpower the gpu).usb selective turn off- uncheck, wifi (if using set to max performance -if not set to max power savings, sleep- hybrid sleep set to off-never, disk drives- set to 0- turns off drives from powering down,
display- turn off timer ( would recommend this be set to never, same for brightness).
If the pc is still hibernating elevated command prompt;  powercfg h off
Device manager, show hidden devices, expand drives, display adapters,  monitors, usb power settings-uncheck put this device to sleep to save power
uninstall any grayed out (code 45 ) devices.
System, system info, advanced system settings, hardware, device installation settings, auto download manuf. apps and icons-no.
Nvidia control panel, global settings,  (some options will not work per game or program) dsr factor-off, vr pre rendered frames ( default is -1 and can cause issues) set to application controlled, power management mode ( new geforce driver or win update can set to highest power draw and will have the gpu clocked at full) set to adaptive.
Geforce experience, settings, uncheck to download or automatically optimize games.
    Install legacy physx.
Manually add the game(s) to nvidia control panel.
If using the nvidia control panel, adjust  image with preview, change advanced 3d image to let the 3d application decide.
Currently using gtx 650ti 1g vram ( had many of the same issues) gtx 750 1g vram, gtx 960 4g vram.
Also use precision x, ocx or other program  to control gpu fans as win10 likes to keep gpu fans at around 20% even on load,
thus overheating the card(s) ( cpuid hardware monitor is decent to check and show temps and on heavy loads, can be saved to txt file).
On my 3 evga cards using 384.76, automatic install from within geforce experience did not go 100% on some so best to install from the
    nvidia download page.
    Please use at own risk.

The problem is that I can replicate the issue with Windows 8.1, and only with those drivers.  I can understand the issue if any drivers would crash but it seems incredibly unusual that nVIDIA drivers are 'hit or miss'.  That is, some drivers cause crashes while others work perfectly fine.

As an update.  I removed power from the computer for a day and seems to improved stability.  It still crashes but the driver does recover.

Some new features that get added by nvidia.
Win10 getting new features more often than nvidia
    updates.
     Vulcan and open gl support.
If other things are not looked at throughout the entire os,
the issues can not be traced or rectified properly.
Most hardware malfunctions are caused by other issues, power management settings,
programs,  apps, updates, heat, the os itself.
Grated, nvidia drivers can have bugs but this sounds more of a different issue, antivirus, firewall
    or system settings.
Have you ran anything to check temps., on the system or ant of the other settings I listed ?

You're missing my point.  Before I settled on 365.10, it was a draw out of a hat as to what drivers worked.  I've ran 365.10 for a year and a half and that driver has never crashed.  The driver that comes with Windows 10 does and so do drivers newer than 365.10.  It's nonsensical to think other factors are the issue when a set of drivers has been nearly flawless for countless hours of operation.

Yes, even worse.  When it does crash it completely annihilates the Control Panel program.  It no longer opens without a restart.
