a few days ago i noticed my house was getting a smell like i had hamsters, it seems to be getting stronger, only thing is a don't have hamsters
 
could it be damp?  
 
very odd situation

    Is it a stand-alone structure or do you share walls with your neighbor(s) ?
     
    Have any pets of your own ?
     
    Did the previous owner have pets - old carpeting & pad ?

    Most likely some sort of rodent in the house somewhere. Either a living family or a solo unit who may have gotten stuck/lost in the walls of the home getting out of the weather.

    Could be coon or squirrels too, depending on how your home is setup. Coons are a little more obvious cause usually a lot of flies follow them. May be rats cause rats will poop all in one spot where as mice just pee and poop as they walk all over everything. The feces pile could be "aging" :).

    Nope, started smoking in the house again seemed to get rid of the smell, can't find any mice/rat poo droppings in the house and no such things as coons in Scotland(other than in a zoo) so other than that it remains a mystery to this day
