"Project: 91' Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Daily Driver LOG" Pic of when I first got the XJ in Boise a few months back. The List:Longblock rebuild "stock" Cleaned MAF or New Maf New fuel injectors, New fuel pump, new feul filter, clean or replace EFI fuelrail O2's, New Cat, Quiet Muffler/Exhaust All New Suspension bushings, ujoints, Neutral Safety Switch crank sensor, and a few extra spares New 2core Radiator Go Rhino Side Steps Change all the rubber hoses, including vacuum hoses New serpentine belt -- throw the "old one" in your emergency bag Flush all brakelines, or replace all brakeline and MasterCylinder New Brakepads, shoes, new brake pistons if need be CHANGE all the fluids, transfer case, third members ... BFgoodwrench all terrain T/A KO2 ties 30 /9.50 R15 (link) Jeep 4.0 Engines: (Sa Design)n Book (link) Fender Flares OR (Link) OR (link)Thoughts on Fender Flares and going down to a 30" ties "no rubbing" ? Pretty much want to keep the Jeep as is and mostly stock, the Jeep has 250miles on it, so Jeep and AMC did something really special with these 4x4 4door Grocery Getters..... New fuel filter Change all the rubber hoses, including vacuum hoses Replace serpentine belt -- throw the "old one" in your emergency bag Flush the brake fluid -- its alcohol based and absorbs water from the atmosphere causing expensive corrosion inside your brake system I do it every 60K miles Full brake inspection, including hard lines and flex lines Plan on changing all the fluids ? transfer case, third members .....

Word of advice, keep a spare crank sensor with you. Jeeps are notorious for them going bad. Sometimes you can tap on them and make them work for a little bit, but usually when then decide to stop they just quit. And there isn't any warning before they go. Also if you have any issues with the electrical system (you will it's a renix system) start with your grounds first. Those are very sensitive to poor grounds. Great vehicles otherwise. I've had many from stock to rock crawling ready and never had any major issues with them. Hopefully the wiring isn't as hacked up on yours as it looks in the picture otherwise you could be in for some fun with it.

Yeah, Ill be going through the wiring/cabling, the kid I bought the Jeep from had an stereo amp, and elec secondary rad fan, so Ill need to go through the elec wiring with a fine comb anyways. Go through each and every ground.... Whats a great Jeep Manual for electrical, fuel, vacuum? Anyone used these guys before? http://aresfabrication.com/model/xj/ Edited, The List, in Post One...

Honestly your best offer to find a factory service manual. You can find them for a good deal from time to time on eBay and Cherokee forums. I have a hard time recommending the usual from Haynes, Chilton and whoever else does them because they always leave something out.
I've never used Ares Fab before. I have looked at their stuff just never purchased from them. I have ordered from JCROffroad for body related stuff and really liked their products and customer service.

Those 4.0 engines are beasts, my 96 Jeep Cherokee is still ticking. Putting in a 3" lift this year and 31 - 1050's on it. Next year I'll gut the interior and fix that. Nice find man!

Stick with 31's. Next best size if you aren't goint to 33's. A little rub is ok. A small lift, a trim here or there and all good.

I'd consider adding, 1 to 1 1/2" of lift/spacing to the body mounts. AND I love ground wires battery cable from frame to engine, to body (BOTH SIDES) AND from battery to engine, frame and MAIN body. AND where feasible, from where elc system grounds to the body ADD a length of 10 gauge to the frame. consider adding a 2nd battery to the charging system requires a ford fender mount silinoid and a little wiring and of course a strong easy access battery mount/tray (while at it, drop $100 and get your alt rebuilt by a auto elc shop...not a parts counter replacement) (being located where you are, they'll understand the extra importance of reliability and assurance.) 250k miles? and your talking about doing a long block spend the extra money and do rest the drive line... tran, transfer case (chain especially), ujoints and any carrier bearings IF I REMEMBER RIGHT, that things has rear axle bearings that are easy access? while it's down doing all that other stuff & sense doing brakes all around... your right there. sounds like that thing will be running far long after the body rust completely off the frame. then you an beverly hillbillies it! lol i want a 4 door one like that

What exactly do you mean by body mounts? The XJ is a unibody not a traditional body on frame where you can add spacers at the body mounts to achieve lift.

The Jeep XJ is a UNIBODY. There is no seperate frame from the body so there is nothing sandwiched between the body and frame because they are one in the same. So you cannot do a body lift as you cannot put any spacers between body and frame......because they are not 2 seperate things.

I looked this up sure enough, I was crossing vehicles. still same basic process though just have to do it at the suspension, rather than the body which, for 1 to 1 1/2" is even easier

Yes. You can do a suspension lift. Different process.
The old full size Cherokees / Wagoneer you could do a body lift as they were body on frame.

If you go real big on the lift, you may want to invest in a yoke slip eliminator kit or a hack and tap. Sounds like you will be keeping it pretty mild though. I just did some spacers to drop the tranny down a bit to lessen the angle for now on mine.
