Hello guys,
I will upgrade my system from a X99 Micro to a X99 Classified. I bought the last X99 Classified available on the european EVGA store ;) I' planing to build a cool rig with my Broadwell-E and custom water cooling loop in a Lian Li O11 case. Since I got no information about the stock BIOS version on the X99 Classified, I ordered a new BIOS chip from the german EVGA support. I'm concerned about Broadwell-E support "out of the box", since I have no Haswell-E cpu at home to flash the BIOS manually. My questions:
1. The X99 Classified has a triple BIOS. Are all 3 BIOS versions stored on the removable BIOS chip? That means, will a new BIOS chip replace all 3 BIOS versions on the motherboard? If only 1/2 BIOS versions are stored on the removable chip, how can I flash the remaining BIOS versions without a Haswell-E cpu?
2. Is there any special procedure to remove the BIOS chip from motherboard? Do I just have to pull the chip? Any lock / hinge? I don't want to break my new motherboard before the first assembly ;) Are there any guides available only?

Regards
Torben from Germany

Since the motherboard comes from Evga, and not some other store, it should ship with a newer Bios that supports Broadwell-E out of the box.

The new Bios chip will have all 3 Bios versions in it.

The old chip can be removed by opening it's "housing" as you can see in the first image in this thread:
    https://forums.evga.com/m.m.aspx?m=1706055&p=1

Be careful to install the new chip in the same orientation as the old chip.

SuperConker is correct. The board should ship with the updated bios and all 3 bios are stored on the bios chip.

    Sleipnir23Update:
I've got received my new BIOS chip today. As you can see in the attached picture, the removable BIOS chip only stores BIOS 1, BIOS 2/3 are stored on the soltered chips on the left.

Edit: My mistake, only BIOS 1 is located on the removable chip. Additional BIOS are soldered to PCB.

If not, you can replace the single, removable BIOS and boot using it. After Windows is installed, just flip the BIOS switch over and run the BIOS update. Rinse and repeat for the third BIOS.

    Thanks for your answers ;)

The german EVGA support could not tell me which BIOS version my Classified has. They said, that some motherboards where updated in the warehouse, but they could not guarentee it. Since the european EVGA warehouse was outsourced from Munich (european headquarter of EVGA) to Amsterdam, they have no direct connection to each other.

That's all you need.  You're good to go.  The other two BIOS chips can be flashed by you when you're ready as was mentioned above...

I apologize for the confusion. I can confirm that the BIOS chip is only for BIOS 1 on all of our multi-BIOS boards, and the others are soldered in. As for flashing the other 2 BIOSes, bdary is correct; once you are able to boot into Windows with BIOS 1, you can then flip the switch to one of the other locations and run the flash to update the other 2.

    Hello guys,
I finally build my new system with the EVGA X99 Classified. The replaced BIOS chip works fine. I've got some questions about the BIOS and motherboard. Although I upgraged from a X99 Micro, these things seem to me quite odd.

    1. The "target frequency" in the BIOS shows approx. 26.000 MHz. Why? It should say 4.000 MHz (40x100). The system runs perfect, so its just cosmetic... but strange.
    2. The BIOS indicates that no Intel ME is installed. In fact, there is no listing in the device manager under Windows 10. Why? I thought every Intel CPU/chipset needs the management engine as an fundamental component.
    3. (maybe in connection to point 2.) EVGA eLeet software fails to start. eLeet tries to install the Intel ICCS service, which requires the Intel ME. In fact, the eLeet software was very buggy at the X99 Micro. Does EVGA not maintain it?
    4. The manual says, that there are 3 PWM fan headers (4pin) and 4 non-PWM headers (3pin). The PWM should be CPU1, CPU2 and CHA_FAN. In fact, the third 4pin header (left of the cpu socket) is labeled PWR_FAN. Anyone else noticed that?

The Target Frequency of your 6950x seem very strange indeed (my 5820k does not do this),
and is most likely a cosmetic bug in the Bios that Evga should look into.

1 - I could swear that my 6950X doesn't show the wrong target frequency (it shows 4400 I'm almost 100% certain), but I can check tonight. I do run the latest BIOS version 2.04. https://forums.evga.com/X99-BIOS-update-452017-m2643468.aspx

2 - a BIOS update / reflash might fix that. I can look tonight to see if mine shows anything.

3 - you might be on to something, yet make sure that you have the correct version for X99. 0.9.4 and 1.0.0 look like the ones that support the X99. https://www.evga.com/eleet/

4 - no, I didn't notice that as it's hard for me to read small text like that these days. Especially when it's installed in a case with everything else pulled in it.

    thanks for your answers.

I've contacted the German EVGA support with the same questions. I will report any reactions.

    @arestavo
I tried eLeet 0.94, 1.00 and 1.10.4. 0.94 and 1.00 fail to start because they to unsuccesfully try to install the ICCS (Intel Clock Controll Service). Version 1.10.4 starts but shows maybe 10 percent of the possible readings. I remember similar problems with my X99 Micro, there version 1.0.0 nearly showed nothing but at least version 0.94 worked mostly.

Like mentioned above, I could switch to BIOS 2/3 while running Windows at flash those chips to BIOS v2.04 and compare them to BIOS 1.

I don't use eleet because it seems its never stable.  I just use the BIOS for any modifications.

Well, my target frequency does read correctly and my ME firmware version is 9.1.35.1006.

I think you need to try a reflash of the firmware. You can write over the current BIOS using the update tool. Or you can try flashing your other BIOS's - I recommend downloading the BIOS fresh as the old one might have some corruption.

    Hello,
I flashed BIOS 3 while in Windows. After a restart, the Target Frequency is shown correct and I've got now a Intel ME Firmware ;) Windows lists now the Intel ME in the device manager.

EVGA eLeet is able to install the ICCS. Like on my X99 Micro, only version 0.94 shows all the monitoring values. Version 1.00 only shows the cpu temps, the rest is blank.

I'm still confused about the fan headers. The manual / BIOS are inconsistent, especially compared to the X99 Micro.

Since Bios 3 is working correctly, I would recommend flashing Bios 1 again as it might fix the Target Frequency error.
