The bubble may have burst, maybe some of the whales will pack up and go home.

Oh no, I don't work for EVGA and EVGA doesn't sell crypto mining cards... that is on MSI and those other guys.

i do not think this is a a crash, simply a market reaction to yet another insecure exchange getting hacked causing a correction to the over inflated markets. this may last for a few days but overall i do not see total market cap dropping below 70-75 Billion, it peaked at 116 Billion back last month. https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/

in all honesty the next few days may be a good time to grab some cheaper coins.

Don't flip it on ebay as the 30 day return policy will bite you in the bum.  Do it on kijiji or craigslist.  You might not get as much money, but then you won't have to worry about ebay fees as well.  And for your own safety, maybe do the transaction in a police parking lot :)

I guess we will see what happens.  I may just be holding onto the coins for the next few months.  Eventually I would like to cash them in to build a dedicated folding machine or two so I can use my main desktop and GTX Titan X(p) again lol.  I had planned for the coin prices to drop but the difficulty climb kind of exceeded what I was expecting.  Either way I'm only using top end hardware so absolute worst case I simply just make a lot less per day and can hold the coins until better gains are made on the markets.

I read that fidelity had looked hard into cryptocurrencies BTC and ETH. Are there any of the more established banking partners that are investing or offering investments in the markets yet?

There must be.  I see adverts for retirement investing and things like that for cryptocurrencies.  I wouldn't put it past some investment firms to suggest a portion of a portfolio to be invested in them.  All though they are some what volatile and unproven long term investments I can see the appeal for investment.  From what I have seen they are treated like as a commodity.  Like having a portfolio segment in gold or silver.

Goldman Sachs has apparently started looking into ETH.  Visa is hiring blockchain engineers.  It's the future, but that future is far away.  We are in the begining, and our holdings now will be worth maybe millions in 20 years, maybe nothing.

And it appears that the "death of ETH" was premature.
Price seems to have started climbing again (a little, not like Bitcoin this past week) and hashrate has started growing again.

I'd call it a "correction" or a "profit taking" period at this point.

one would think... but i bet that this is just a slow down to catch ones breath. after the 1st of august BTC will have either forked or locked in a new block code and things will start chugging along.

Bitcoin has already recovered almost all of it's drop from the ATH - altcoins have recovered some but a lot more variation there.
ETH went almost a week with flat total network hashrate but it's started climbing again - slowly.

I suspect that demand pressure on GPUs has eased some but we're still months or more away from any long-term crash in the demand.

Bitcoin is the most popular crypto currency presently. There's a lot of noise around Bitcoin. I wish to buy bitcoins. I read a good article on how to buy bitcoin https://bitcoinhowbuy.com/how-to-buy-bitcoin-with-paypal/ , but I want to hear recommendations for acquiring. How much money can I earn on bitcoins? I still didn't come to a decision whether to own the bitcoins.

honestly i would not go an simply buy BTC and think of it as a long term investment. it is very erratic and you need to keep an eye on the markets and news sites regularly to know if you need to move off BTC before a potential crash. right now BTC is at record highs and everyone can speculate that BTC will go to the moon and crash to nothing. its up to you to decide if you want to take the risk.

Mining is different. Mining has a guarantee of daily income of some amount regardless of markets. you can hold on to that income and even sell later when markets are more favorable. INVESTING is completely different. here you only have a fixed amount of funds which you buy/sell coins with. and if a coin falls suddenly, which it always does, and you are on the wrong side you can loose quite a bit. for example if someone were to have invested into FLDC just last month they would have lost 65% of their investment today.

Yeah, true, I see what you mean there. I was thinking in terms of mining also though, like, if I'll be underwater even on the mining equipment I have. I just have one rig set up for it as a hobbyist...

That would be me.. I sold some CURE and bough FLDC at .xxx1200 thinking it would go back up to 1500, however if it goes back up to 0600 I could still break even given the price of BTC.

ouch... ya, for me my buy rate was ~500 and i only sold everything i earned over that. i knew from the charts that there was no real support over ~350 but buying over 500 was just way too risky for me. though i was doing the exact opposite, selling FLDC for CURE. i think CURE will reach those 0.00015 marks again and maybe spike over 0.0004 in the next year, kinda like FLDC has done. so i have been hording as much CURE as i can get my hands on.

CURE has been doing well, actually holding it's own against Bitcoin the last few weeks during Bitcoin's runup after the "August 1st fork" FUD was overcome.
FLDC on the other hand has been LOSING even on a $ basis, though not by a lot - we're close to the point of CURE earnings being higher than FLDC earnings (and on spikes it HAS been worth more at times the last couple days).

Up side - I finally got enough of a spike on FLDC to sell off my "last month" earnings, currently being a bit slow about shopping for parts for a new rig as I want to get the current hardware "aligned" better to fit my power infrastructrure.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
