Hi everyone,
So i just got my GTX 980 Ti SC ACX 2.0+ and i tried out a few games. Witcher 3 for example uses 99% of the GPU, same with Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light, but however in games like H1Z1 KOTK, Rust, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, Mount and Blade: Warband, BeamNG, the usage only goes up to 60% resulting in low fps 50-60 on rust for example. Shadow of Mordor uses 98% with many drops to 60-70% while my CPU only goes up to 50% usage.
I also had this problem with a GTX 970 i tried out a few years ago.
My last experience was with FurMark which uses 99% of the GPU but when i turn off furry objects rendering the usage stays at 50-60% with 20-25% CPU Load
My specs are:
I7 4770k @Stock
16gb DDR3
750W PSU (Nox Uranos VX) Which im starting to think that it's the main problem (i've seen bad reviews about it)

Im also running the latest vga drivers, and used DDU 2 times already.
Thanks in Advance and sorry about my Account name (i created it a few years ago in hope i would buy a evga graphics card)

I would suggest overclocking that K series CPU. And if your cooler can't handle it, investing in a better CPU cooler so that you can overclock it.

It will help with SOME of the lower GPU usage scenarios, yet probably not all of them. Some games just aren't coded well.

You can try replacing the PSU. Usually you'd get BSODs and computer shut offs or restarts if the PSU wasn't up to the task. Usually.

Wouldnt that only be necessary if there was a CPU bottleneck? Im also getting low gpu usage on GTA V, about 60-70% and about 50% cpu load.
Ive check a few youtube videos and people seem to have no problem (with a gtx 980ti and i7 4770k @stock)

In game settings play a rather large role as well. Are your settings the same as those rigs that you saw on YouTube? And in the same area? With the same action going on?

Here's a good write up about what a bottleneck is: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?428946-CPU-Bottleneck-What-is-it-and-how-it-affects-your-games

Try this: "...test the game at an extremely low resolution. If your framerates improve, then CPU bottleneck is not your issue. If framerates stay the same, then CPU bottleneck could be your issue."

And should you find that this test doesn't improve frame rates?

"So how do I combat CPU Bottleneck?

Overclocking. That's an entirely different issue altogether and I don't recommend anyone doing it without reading up on it first.

But overclocking is the primary way, outside of a better CPU to reduce CPU bottleneck in games."

Force a higher resolution inside the nviida control panel with dsr if you want your gpu to run at 99% usage all the time.

Just tried to change rust resolution to 800x600 and i got the same fps (cpu at 39%)
I also noticed that looking at the water increased the gpu usage to 99%

Just did that and the gpu usage stayed the same or even lower
Edit: Uploaded Image with Graphs
Edit2: Also when i play the games at fullscreen GPU-Z displays PerfCap Reason as Vrel

Sorry, i actually forgot to do it before however i did it now. I tried 2k res but im still getting the same fps
Edit: Forgot to add that i also tried 4.2 on the cpu and it did nothing

Ok, but did your gpu usage go higher? Sounds like you have v-sync on if you're getting the same fps at different resolutions.

Im pretty sure it stayed the same, about 60% usage and unstable fps 50-60 and 90 looking away from vegetation/buildings. Other games (that run well) aren't locking the fps aswell

My graphics card is currently using bios ver. 84.00.32.00.94, is this the latest bios? If not, should i update it?

No need to update the vbios. Use max dsr resolution and you should definitely see the gpu usage go up even if the game is capped to 60 fps.

You'll need to run the game a higher resolutions with v-sync off to make the gpu usage hit 99% at all times.

But why do i have low gpu usage with a lower resolution? CPU Bottleneck? Or is my graphics card faulty?

Lower resolutions are less stressful on the gpu. When the gpu isn't being worked hard it will show low usage.

So my graphics card is fine, right?
Btw, shouldnt that fix it for other games? If so why isnt it working on Rust?

Your card is fine. Yes, it should. Maybe it's because you're playing an alpha version.

Another reason for the low usage could be because the game just isn't very demanding in the graphics department.

Just tried GTA V again and it is only using 60-70% of the gpu, but when i toggle msaa 8x it makes the gpu usage go to 99%

Hi Sajin. I got one quick question, is 63ºC normal for idle temps? (fan at 14%)
At full load i set the fan to 75% and the temperature stays at 73-75ºC
The Card runs at 1400mhz core and 4001mhz memory clock.

Idle temps depend on many things including case airflow and ambient temperatures, so they will vary.

If the card isn't downclocking while idle that can have a very large impact. It is likely some software running in the background (like an internet browser) or a high refresh rate monitor or multiple monitors causing this. The fix for a 144hx monitor is to just set the desktop to 120Hz instead of 144hz. For multiple monitors: (I think it's this one) http://www.overclock.net/...g-fix-for-nvidia-cards

Your full load temps are great.

Hi Arestavo, the link isnt working for me, but i ended up finding a good fix on the forum for the idle temps issue. The fix was to clean boot.
Thanks a lot anyway

Glad that you were able to find a fix.

If it returns and you don't feel like doing a clean boot every time, the culprit is likely a piece of software that loads with Windows. You'll have to uninstall them one at a time to find out which one, or install Windows fresh or on a different partition and install your software one at a time to see which one is the culprit.

Those idles seem a bit high, but those on load temps are looking good. Though they do seem a bit high for 75% fan
