Is this normal? (I am trying to flash a modded bios to my Titan X hydro copper with NVflash64 5.370.0)

---***---***---

C:\blah\blah\blah>nvflash64 --index=0 -override -6 bios.rom

...blah blah blah...

WARNING: Firmware image PCI Subsystem ID (3842.2992)
does not match adapter PCI Subsystem ID (3842.2999).

Please press 'y'... blah blah blah

---***---***---

I am trying to go over the default power limit of 110% since my GPU is power limit bound, I cannot get to 1500MHz+ with just 110% stalling at ~1450MHz by the power limit.

It doesn't help that this is my first time flashing vBIOS, if only this was as easy to hit 1.5GHz as my 970, it didn't even need to over-volt.

Looks like a bad flash. Hope you have a copy of your original vbios.

Correct commands for flashing are...

First: nvflash --protectoff
Second: nvflash -6 biosname.rom

You no longer have to do that.

Any idea where the EEPROM chip on a Titan X Hydro Copper is or its markings? I don't think my card is a run of the mill EVGA titan x with a EK block on it, the original bios isn't even found anywhere on the internet, it's 84.00.45.00.03 (only seen an ASUS card with this BIOS on Techpowerup) where as all EVGA cards there are 84.00.1F.00.90

No idea where the EEPROM chip is located. I'd suggest contacting evga support at this time... https://www.evga.com/about/contactus/

Ask them if you can send the card in to have it reflashed. You'll most likely have to pay a fee to have it done.

You have dug yourself into this hole.  Before you dig it too much deeper, please contact EVGA support and see how they can help you.

https://www.evga.com/support/ticket/support.aspx

Using Google image search to look at PCBs, I am QUITE certain that this is the TITAN X EEPROM chip location:

I can't quite read all of the characters written on it in the above image in order to be certain, but it looks like a Macronix non-volatile Flash memory chip.

I would HIGHLY advise against the following action, but as a last ditch effort, you theoretically could have the chip removed by a skilled local repair person, have it re-flashed, and have it re-installed in order to get your video card functioning again.  But, as stated, that is highly unadvised since doing so would ensure that your video card's warranty remains void; and it is quite likely that EVGA can provide you with a better alternative in order to regain and retain your video card's warranty.

Did you compare file sizes before flashing? EEproms are of different memory sizes depending who and when made the card; Your card may not be able to hold all the data. If you forced the flash and it was too big of a file, this is what will happen.

Re: NVFlash help 2017/06/27 02:28:32 (permalink)
I just had a bad feeling, I got two of these cards, both second hand, one was boxed (this one is not having any issue with a custom 120% power limit vBIOS), the other was on its own (the problematic card). Would it be possible for someone to slap a EVGA/EK block and backplate on a ASUS PCB and make it look like a standard hydro copper? Would that even affect anything since the hardware is all the same, though the vBIOS sticker is different?

OK, good news and bad news; mostly bad news until I can fix it.
I think it might be an EEPROM chip size problem. The support system provided me with a 84.00.45.00.03 vBIOS, it's 194KB. The 84.00.1F.00.90 vBIOS is 221KB, and guess what the EEPROM size is...

So, I think it's safe to say the problem is:

Now, does anyone have any idea to fix this?

I use the older NVFLASH 5.265 for Windows with the -4 -5 -6 flags for my GTX 760..Don't know if it'll work for your card or not though..There's a  lot of versions with certificate checks bypassed at Overclock.net here..Also at TechPowerUp here, but not with certificate checks bypassed..The "No NVIDIA display adapters found" message means the particular version won't work with your card..Good luck.

NVflash 5.265 x64 don't seems to do it for me, it can see the GPU, in can turn the EEPROM write protect off, but cannot use the -4 -5 -6 flags:

OK, I think I figured out why I couldn't get NVflash DOS ver5.163 to work in the first place, it doesn't support Maxwell (or above, it came out in 2014...) I think. I have my old trustly GTX970 hooked up with the Titan X below it and I can't even see the 970 when booted into DOS.

Anyone got a NVflash DOS version that support flag -4 -5 -6 and maxwell GPUs?

I am weirdly proud of my super janky loop:

I can not see your file names when you screen shot the entire panel. Use snipping tool to get better pictures.

I havent flashed a gpu in over a year, so I may get the commands wrong. I will flash my older gpu's when I get home and see what is missing.
