NVIDIA restricts the bios by signing certified files. There is no current way to mod the bios files for NVIDIA cards right now.

It's been like that since pascal was released. I'd say it's permanent at this point.

It is permanent until (if) someone breaks the code open.  NVIDIA intends for it to be permanent.

If you're using the card for mining your efficiency will plummet with a higher clocked card anyway.  You're trying to mine coins while balancing your power usage (which you have to pay for).

For example the 1080 Ti FE has the highest efficiency at around 60% of its power target.

Well, if I can not change the bios...

I'd like to know if any of you mine Ethereum, and what overclocking settings do you use ...

Nice, i already bought EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC 08G-P4-6173-KR, 8GB.

I just wanted to know what the best way is to increase her clock on max settings and have a low power consumption.

Any suggestions?

To fine tune it, you have to make a custom frequency curve with your intended load at relatively stable temps. Otherwise you'll get bad results in practice. You can use precisionX OC or afterburner beta to set and test the custom frequency offset to power curve.

If youre using the voltage curve then I would suggest MSI Afterburner. PXOC can only adjust in increments of 25MHz wereas AB can go as low as 1MHz, but Pascal then rounds it to the nearest 12.5MHz.

It won't let me post a link to the modded BIOS but there is a topic on overclock.net with instructions on how to do so. Do it at your own risk.

I just searched for this and couldn't find anything. Everyone in the titan xp, 1080 ti & 1070 clubs are still saying you can't modify the vbios. Everyone is also stating their isn't a vbios editor yet.

Probably means the XOC BIOS without a power limit, but still has a voltage limit.

Flashing a 1080 ti vbios onto a 1070 is a bad idea.

Good point. I forgot this was about a 1070.

The only XOC BIOS im aware of is for a 1080Ti

For the GTX 1070 on Ethereum, you want to push your memory OC as high as you can with stability, then drop the TDP 'till your hashrate starts dropping noticeably.
The specific numbers are going to vary with the specific card, due to manufacturing tolerances - I've seen folks claim to hit +800 Memory clock in Afterburner on some cards, but my 1070 SC cards (same model as OP) never managed more than +550 stable and one of them was only able to handle +500.

With that said, even for the 1070 ETH is usually not the best option - ZEC is usually better, and some of the "small cap" coins are often better yet.
ETH isn't going to LOSE you money, you just won't usually make as much as via mining other altcoins that NVidia cards are better at.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

There are actually only 2 main "platforms" in graphics (and a bunch of minor ones) - NVidia and AMD/ATI
MSI is a manufacturer, not a platform - IIRC they make both NVidia AND AMD based cards.
Some manufacturers make both NVidia and AMD, some stick with only one of the two (EVGA is NVidia specific, Sapphire is AMD specific, as a couple of examples).

AMD has cracked down "sorta" on BIOS modding, their drivers since the 16.10.2 released refuse to run on cards that have modded BIOS (though I've seen comments that "it can be worked around" in some cases).
NVidia cracked down HARD on the Pascal cards, doing some sort of check in the BIOS itself.

The manufacturers don't want folks modding the BIOS, breaking the card with a bad or "push it too hard" mod, then sending the card back in in an attempt at a warranty repair claim, because of the costs involved.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
