I'm interested in Screen view angle in direct sun light and how well it auto dims in a dark room - nothing more fun than a blindingly bright screen at 4 AM OnePlus 5 smartphone review Seems to be reasonably priced unlike the S8

It is a great phone for that price and it does have some really good features but def some things that put me off it too. Im really torn on that thing RJ, lol. No waterproofing, ok I can fix that myself and still give the phone enough air circ to cool, im pretty sure, so I can live without that. No SD slot.... don't like this at all and this is a huge way to keep me walking. No removal battery.... another thing that will keep me walking. Twin 16mp cameras.... just why?!?!? Waste of space and loot and really not necessary, its not a camera its a phone. Could have left some room for a headphone jack!! ^&&* "{:% Fingerprint reader..... that should def be removed cause its waaayyy too insecure to be on phones at this stage. Its got dual SIMs though so that's a plus but I cant say that id use it but it might be fun to play with. :) Youll have to give us a little review of it after you use it for a month and get used to it a little and see how it goes.

You bring up some really good points. When it comes to smartphones I'm on a very tight budget. I bought the 8GB/128GB memory model. Since I intend to have this in a case soon I'm not overly worried about waterproofing. If you look at Samsung/Apple and other manufacturers there is no removable battery there either. There is a headphone jack at the bottom. As for the fingerprint reader you can choose to use it or another phone entry method such as a PIN. Initially I can tell you that this is the fastest phone I have ever used. Multi-tasking is a breeze no matter how many apps you have running. More importantly for me there is NO bloatware such as with other major phone brands. The adaptive brightness works very well and as soon as we get sunshine again I'll report back on this.

Google Pixel XL FTW ;) ..but having an excellent camera was one of my highest priorities. Got it unlocked direct from Google - no bloatware, yay!

Nope it doesn't have an SD slot, which almost stopped me buying it, but having Google provide free unlimited photo and video space with full original uncompressed RAW image/video size helped. Yes they offer free cloud to everyone, but only the Pixel & Pixel XL get original RAW uncompressed cloud space, which is ideal for post-processing, and as mentioned, the camera side is one of the most important features for me. For many people this would not matter. The Pixel XL comes in 32GB and 128GB storage options, which is a buttload of space when all your images and videos are being stored in the cloud. I didn't like the fact the battery is uninstallable, but this appears to be the norm with almost all premium phones now, unfortunately. Sorry OP, kinda hijacking your thread.

Google Pixel doesn't have extended storage support I believe. Anyway I bought the 8GB/128GB OnePlus 5 model and that has enough memory for me.

Pixel and Pixel XL both get the extended cloud support :). How's the camera on the OnePlus 5?

Its def a very good phone for that price point, which also shows ya that the prices that Samsung and others want for theres are way over whats reasonable. Glad to see it has a physical headphone jack, that's great. I refuse to use cloud services because they are so insecure so having a sd card slot makes life a lot easier for me. I guess I could live with out one but I really don't want to if its not necessary. Grats to you RJ on your new purchase and def let us know later what you think too.
