I wanted to know, i am sending one of my 2 gtx980 to rma. I have them watercooled and so on.

Assuming EVGA agree on the coil whine, will i get a new identicle card replacement or will i, as i hve heard be offered a different newer card, since the 980 is no longer in production?

What may happen?

You should get a 980 back, they have them in stock for RMA use.
I just RMA'ed one of my GTX 980 Hybrid Cards and got back a GTX 980 Hybrid.
The only Minor issue was the RMA card had the old Style Shroud and not the new LED Style Shroud that was sent in.

They should send you the same card back. If they send you a different card you will need to let them know you have an sli setup that way they can replace the other as well.

''may''  get first quality card [when they were out and poplar   - or  you get the same card back but its a referb  [most likely result]   or if there just gone and nothing available they offer the next best thing  like maybe a base model  gtx 1060  ?  .

looking here at even the ''B'' stock / referb theres no 900 series even offered there ???

    https://www.evga.com/products/productlist.aspx?type=8

thing is if your stuck  all you can do is go through there process and see what they offer in the end .   like sajin said , they may have some hold back just for this need ? maybe fine then maybe stuck with a next best offer to satisfy your rma ?

what I dot get is when you contacted them about the rma of your card and your sli need  why they did not spell out what they can do up front  and give some kinda assurances ?

just found this evga thread on a 980 ti rma ???

    https://forums.evga.com/980ti-RMA-m2628377.aspx

looks like they got 10 series back ??   hmmmmm.....

    one more ??

may need to send your 2 cards in to get 2 10 series that will do SLi  as you got now ?

Okay, well, if thats the case, my second card also has Coil whine, not as bad, but it does. I guess i get over having to buy new waterblocks, but i would have a hard time going from 980 to 1060... rather pay a bit and get 1070 at least.. Otherwise i'd feel like street cred went way to far down haha.

AFAIK there is an option on the RMA form to specify you have an SLI setup. Mark that and EVGA should get you an exact replacement or upgrade both cards.

I did mark it when i setup the RMA. So that should be fine. Now, the wait... At least i only really play Euro Truck Sim 2 at the moment, so i can live with one card.

EVGA gives equal or better performing cards if they can not replace with the same.. a 1060 can't do so I, so it is highly unlikely you will get a 1060. Not sure where the idea of the 1060 from, as it can not offer the same performance, since SLI is impossible.

'' the RMA form to specify you have an SLI setup. Mark that and EVGA should get you an exact replacement or upgrade both cards''

that's how I seen it  unless something has changed on that policy .

''EVGA gives equal or better performing cards if they can not replace with the same''   I guess that's in there opinion ????  from then evga links I posted don't seem like then guys were all too happy  getting that  ''better'' 1070 over ther 980ti 's ?

I guess if I were to get back a 1070 for a / or my 980 ti as a replacement I would not be too happy as well  . thing is with a 10 series for me  it DONT support all my needs as a 900 series does .

the 10 series does a 1/2 butt job as far as supporting things  and cost as much $$$  ?????  go figure  , I guess that's what folks want these days   parts that you now got to go support instead of parts that support you  and your needs ?? [then don't forget to go win-10 on top of all that ] ... lol....... anymore upgrading a computer today hurts me far more then it helps , sad.

I wated on the 10 series and when they released I quickly seen  I better get a 980ti [or any 900 series]  before it was too late

good luck with your RMA  and do report back the final out come  on what you ended up with for satisfaction

What are these needs that the 10 series doesn't address?

Re: Getting same card? 2017/06/21 15:34:54 (permalink)
not hard to see  ?    like first off no native  analog support    lack of os support   see the 900 series is all there   xp and up  dvi-I   all plug and play.    that 10 series is not  so if your running any os's or older monitors still toady  [I'm supprised there not all ready dropping 7 support and it all win -10 by now ]   like me I still use xp vista and 7  and I still use my great older CRT monitors as well as modern digital flat screen ones   with that 10 series  it pretty much renders all that useless where the 900 series still works fully

so you buy a 40) 10 series card that cant do  then the cost to support it  like say you now need to buy a new monitor   or crazy hope it works active adaptor   [on top of the cost of that 10 series card ]    or a 400$ 900 series that can do it all out of the box native ???   [one card for all my needs at one price ]

like they say a fool and his money can be soon parted   .. you see it a lot  where guys buy a 10 series card just to find it don't work   cause they now find there stuff is not supported with it and there back to new egg buying things extra to support there new card ..  silly

like I said today parts you now support them cause they no longer support you  ..   look at all todays compatibility issues out there     its just about near if you don't use the latest builds the latest parts just don't work   like  removing dvi-''i'' port for a dvi''d'' ??   who did that help out ???   is that dvi-d cost less ??   does it  support all as the dvi-I did ???     see your not seeing how these softewar  and hardware company's   now dictate  what you will or will not use   like look at Microsoft and windows 10  now not even a OS anymore its a cloud service  and how they tried to force you in to it  ???    notice how there all working hand in hand on all this  .   your personal privet  custom computer is now a thing of the past  .

    anyway with a 900 card all my stuff works  with a 10 series  that's a NO-GO

I just got o look at what works for ALL my needs not just 1/2 butt part of them at the same cost of money    . maybe I another 5 or so years  I have to make that adjustment  , but not today .

    anyway good luck
