So I'm folding away tonight on my cards, 373.06 is installed and I'm doing bad because of so many low point work units as of late, and suddenly my screen goes black and the display goes to 16 colours..and I'm thinking "oh crap did my cards just die".  And I look at PX and it has no frequency for GPU or for RAM.  Then the screen goes black again and the colours start to come back like the cards are having the drivers reinstalled.  I check, and sure enough Windows did another force install of 382.  I've disabled it in the registry, I've disabled it in advanced settings in control panel.  What the heck do I have to do to stop this from happening?  Do I seriously need to dump windont's at this point and move to linux?  I can't count how many freaking times this week I have woken up to a system that has rebooted because windows has decided to force install drivers that I have explicitly told it not to.  And not counting how many work units my computer has dumped because windows has force installed this driver.

I'm running windows 10 pro, latest.  The only other thing I can think of doing at this point is a group policy, but that's overkill, isn't it?

I disabled windows update services in desktop services app
I also rolled back the driver in device mgr and then ran microsoft update hide tool
    https://support.microsoft...stalling-in-windows-10

then I reinstalled the driver from Nvidia after all that.

Well I've just created the group policy because windows did it to me AGAIN right after I ddu'd 382 and reinstalled 373.06.  Not even 1 minute into folding and it decided to install 382.  I have all updates and everything disabled so it has me rather angry that this is happening.  It also probably explains why my folding has been so freaking horrible lately.  If it happens again I'll either go back to windows 7 or figure out how to do everything I do on linux.  Which won't be easy.

Windows doing its own thing without a care in the world is my primary argument against windows based machines for folding.

Something else to do, is to make sure you have a backup of the 373.06 installer on your PC so you don't have to go hunting for it every time windows decides to "Fix" the problem for you.

Yeah win10 can be a real PITA, but I did that above and not a problem so far.
I paid 8 bucks each for my windows 7 pro keys, they are OEM but they work, and validate win10 pro still.
Linux is ok, but it still has a ways to go, verything is a toodoo to get anything working right.
Hardly any benching software and getting sensors to work is always fun. Overclocking is hit or miss.
I will put up with windows for now, until they really get me mad.

Well I will try this hidden update thing.  I guess I have to ddu 382 and reboot and then run it and tell it to hide 382? I hope the stupid thing never installs again.  haha.  If it does then Windows 10 goes out the window.

    Thank you.

Well you roll back the driver thing, then tell the hidden update to not install video drivers.
That's the way it went for me.

There are a few older threads from a while back with a couple different fixes.
This and the reboot with out asking issue is not cool.

This is was the only way I could keep the Creator Version form updating my Ti Drivers.
I had to hide it 2 times on one of my Rigs before it stopped.

Well thus far it has appeared to have stopped windont's from forcing the upgrade.  I had 2 drivers to stop for some reason.  I hope it stays stopped because I can't afford for my folding to get any worse.  We must defeat these diseases that folding allows us to research!

Thank you very much for your assistance!

I use the Metered Internet connection on windows 10, seems to stop windows updates - I'm Not on creator edition, yet

However; my Defender updates & installs take Much Longer with metered internet - why - I have wondered

I did see this Issue on the Creator Version with it set On as well with installing updates. (Metered Internet Connection that is)
I have to turn it off if I want Updates on Creator to even Download, not an issue on the older version of Windows 10.
At least in Creator you can turn it Off and On without restarting the computer.
None of the Reg Hacks or settings used on the Windows 10 Pre Creator works on Creator.
This means in this new update coming this Fall we will have to learn this all over again.
