Hello,

I have 2x GTX 980, and i have insanely load coil whine. They are watercooled, and cannot be removed fast or eay, what is my best way to test which card is giving the coil whine?

Can it turn off the PCI lanes in Bios?

Some motherboards have individual PCIE slot disable dip switches.

If your motherboard doesn't have this, the only way to test each card individually is to pull one out from its slot. Simply removing power from one card will cause most motherboards to fail to boot and show a "connect PCIE power" error.

Now, I suppose you can disable SLI and test out just the primary card to see if it is the culprit. However that won't tell you of they both have the issue.

I have the same situation with my 970 SLI. So I bought a mechanics stethoscope at Harbor Freight Tools for only $5 ( sidewalk sale). I was easily able to determine it was the top card with the scope.   I was very surprised how effective it was to pick up the whine. It works way better than my wife's professional doctor's stethoscope. Gonna try switching slots to see if it helps. They are water cooled so it's a pain.

Update: So I did the swap and things are quiet for now. I remembered why I had not done this before as the 2nd vga had a touchy display port connection. After placing it back under the desk, I had to rearrange the cables to make a good connection. Now only time will tell if this works.
