was having a few weird issues with some programs like corsair link and a few other as well as windows updates failing to install, tried everything up to re-installing windows clean but issues came back, finally i turned off Fastboot in the power settings and like magic all those issues cleared up. so it looks like MS has given us another default setting that does absolutely nothing but cause grief.

oh and afterwards i can honestly say there is no difference in boot times for me, if anything its a bit faster.

I have not had issues with fast boot yet.  So I will do the latest update, maybe this afternoon.  See if that causes a problem.  My boot times have always been dependent on how the boot process does is in querying my ID based CD/DVD read/write drives.

Im running a samsung 960 nvme m.2 boot drive so its already crazy fast to boot, the one update failed 12 times then would tell me files were in use and i had to reboot, kept telling that, i think some files it was trying to change were just reloading from the part it saved from ram. With corsair link it would crash or not load and if it did it would sometimes be missing tiles or be very laggy with updating devices and temps. Did some searching and found a lot of people since win 8 that had various issues with it.

Yep, I know of at least 2 machines that friends have asked me to take a look at / fix.

    * clicking off the fast boot in the power settings fixed everything !?!?   mindboggling how they could make this effect so many little issues , doing other stuff

-the strangest one was my friends system that I used previously & sold him my old system.  he calls and tell me that it will not stay turned off ??    Sure enough, every time it would just come alive on it's own .  finally found out this magical power of 'the fast boot'  fix  from the update was causing it. !?!?!?
     * still shaking my head **

exactly, i went round and round with corsair link and eleet trying to get them to work, tried work arounds that people at corsair forums posted but never could get it to be 100%, since i turned that off no one single problem from either program. funny thing is i had people at corsair forums telling i was crazy and it would not cause problems and that i needed it because my pc would be slow, lol yeah samsung nvme 960 m.2 drive does not need help at being fast

i had my HTPC doing that, there was a setting in the bios for intel smart connect technology (ICST) that would turn it on around 3am, not from sleep but a full power off, drove me nuts for months, turned stuff off, searched countless forums and support pages with no luck, but once i disabled it it stayed off. crazy settings sometimes cause the biggest headaches.

I had fun with Windows Update saying an update is needed, please click the button to update, so I'd click and it would think about it for a little bit and then come back with the same message, over and over again. Googled and found I certainly wasn't the only one with this issue recently. Tried numerous different 'fixes' including a huge list of registry entries, but nothing worked. Eventually had to install W10 fresh and reinstall all my progs and set up everything again from scratch. Thanks MS for wasting so much time that I really did not have to spare.

Yes, ever since it was introduced with 8, a quick google search returned many results.
