Driver 378.92 better than 372.90 or 373.06 ?

I don't like the forced updates either but to many apathetic Window users. My take is the procrastinators with their derelict systems help push Microsoft to force feed updates to keep all running smooth and safe. 

Also once more they remove IE from the Start Menu.

I just keep it pinned to the taskbar. Edit: Although one time they even removed that on me.

That and once even from my Desktop as well.

Yes removing IE desktop icon is common. They want everyone to use Edge. I still use both because I want to access my password manager I have been using for years.

From what I can remember that would be for the commercial offerings such as Enterprise and maybe Professional.

Some updates make sense too keep automatic for the average users, mostly OS updates, though I don't think it should ever be forced or counter-intuitive to turn off that automation for advanced users.
 
In the case of drivers, I think there is little reason for Windows to automatically update those without user input beyond initial installation. If the user doesn't opt into automatic driver updates, no automatic driver updates. I've recently had a graphics driver uninstall and reinstall while I was using my system. It freaked me out and made me think it was something more serious since my screen blacked out and the application I was using crashed.
 
All in all though, I believe they do it for the lowest common denominator. The average user can't manage driver updates, none the less OS updates, so Microsoft probably automates it so people don't go blaming them or the OS for potential issues (performance, security, etc). Not that the actual average is necessarily that incompetent (as I said, lowest common denominator), but I can see how this may be useful for somebody who isn't tech savvy.
 
Only problem is, it causes issues for advanced user who want / need to be on a specific driver other than the latest in Microsoft's database, and then it goes ahead and updates it anyway. Then they bury those settings, and in Windows 10 they're totally mixed up, it's nowhere near as easy to find some of the options as it was in previous versions of Windows (such as 7).

The articles I've read seem to indicate the MS believes they can implement a safer more stable OS if all PCs are setup the same, all update are from the same baseline - removing the complexity of most variables outside of hardware.  I believe this is just a cost cutting approach.
 
Users are left with a broken system and have to figure it out when an update hoses the PC or disregards their previous customizations
 
I avoid MS IE & Edge when ever possible - Firefox is preferred

I really hope they don't go in this direction, or if they do, they at least do it right and using Windows doesn't become a constant exorbitant expense as well as being a pain. But I'm losing faith in Microsoft as they can't even manage their OS properly, and that's what they do best IMO.
