Took 2 RX Vegas and Threadripper to run Prey in 4K with screen tearing.

A single 1080 Ti can run Prey in 4K at over 80fps already.

    Wait for it......
AMD: but it's not optimized yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As long as your popular enough, you can get away with anything.

If the date for the founders edition to be available is any indication, you can plan mid September before any gaming cards are made available.

Amd is really trying hard to allow Nvidia to get a volta card out to laugh at Vega.

AMD gambled and lost with HBM. You'd think they would have learned with Fury X's failure. It's time for AMD to sell their graphics division so we can finally get some competition.

I think the awesome scenario however unlikely and however much I dislike multiple companies combining to become less. is as follows.

Sell Radeon to intel to get both sides GPU teams off their duffs. Have Nvidia buy the CPU side. And then...

    LET...THEM...FIGHT

Imagine those two going at it. Nvidia with Ryzen, Intel with Radeon MMMM thats a scenario for solid innovation in a short timeframe.

    Nvidia with ARM(ie tegra)

ARM will soon be in competition with AMD and Intel
lower power use - with about the same performance - and Energy is the primary issue with AI and servers
you want the best bang for the lowest power consumption

you also have IBM's powerpc and the return of another chip maker - let alone Google's TPU

the future is lower power use
Intel and AMD are killing themselves with the heat makers

with all the datacenter growth the future is ARM

AMD is competing quite well. NVIDIA will also turn to HBM style memory eventually but NVIDIA will wait until higher yields become available more than likely.

AMD will never compete against Intel....
    Enter the Ryzen.
Yeah but not in the Server space.
    Enter the EPYC.
AMD will never take market shares from Nvidia.
    Enter RX400 series (now 500).

AMD is coming back, I can't understand some of you guys, this is a good thing, this is good for us.

They really pulled a rabbit out of their butts with Ryzen and EPYC, maybe they will pull another one out with this HBM2 video card.

AMD did not catch market share with 400/500 series - they lost 2% last quarter

yes competition is good. , but to gain market share you have to demonstrate repeated successes- superior product/pricepoint
and customer support- ie software drivers and applications(new ones too)....as wells as technical support (as in fixing software and drivers)

that requires Staff and AMD dropped quite a few to get lean - because they are bleeding $$$
Rory nearly killed AMD when he took over - lisa has rescued it when he was canned and she took over

AMD will not gain server share - ARM IS
both Intel and AMD are losing there - it's about performance/watt - because energy cost $$$ so you want the best bang for your $$$
chips are fixed cost(one time cost) energy is variable(it keeps costing you $$$)

and even if you need a certain type of performance(for AI) from CPU - intel wins there over AMD

the future is AI like jen said - Intel and Nvidia have leg in the door

until AMD can demonstrate leadership in software(and AI) as well as the hardware they will lag behind

Intel just got a kick in the Arse...it's about time
they were dragging their heels because they had no competition

just look at the top 10
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TOP500

the only one AMD has is oak ridge and it's in replacement now with power PC

    even Intel looking at ARM
    https://www.theverge.com/2017/3/9/14867310/arm-servers-microsoft-intel-compute-conference

why??? ... they have been losing market share of datacenters to ARM - because of the lower power costs

    What? In Avgust... No.
That will be in October If you ask me.
Maybe AMD want to launch GPU as GTX1080Ti after NVIDIA launch Volta?
They are not normal really, something is not clear with Volta. If they didn't present on Computex new GPU she is not finished yet.

Nvidia just released 1080 Ti. The GDDR6 memory for Volta will not be mass produced until Q1 2018, so it looks like Volta will be a H1 2018 product.

volta is ready - even for consumer - the problem is HBM2 and GDDr6
AMD is late for this reason

there is not enough HBM2 for consumer - yields are low  and prices for hbm2 is high
most of the HBM2 is going for volta tesla cards - oak ridge is complete by oct/nov
AMD is getting some HBM2 for their professional card - but again they have delayed because of the low yields
consumer is gonna be later like fall/winter

Nvidia may release a HBM2 titan card in OCT as the first volta consumer card - GTC is in OCT
Full production of GDDR6 will start Jan 1 - their might be some early supply of GDDR6 in late fall / OCT and later
so Cards may be available then - just in low numbers because of avail
or they could use GDDR5x since they can get 16Gbps out of it now and go with that - with the caveat that memory capacity of the chips will be limited to 12 or 24 GB

Radeon Pro Vega 56 and Radeon Pro Vega 64

As you might remember Radeon R9 Fury series were using two Fiji variants, either 4096 cores (64 CUs) or 3584 cores (56 CUs). As it turns out, AMD may follow the same path with Vega, as confirmed by Apple iMac Pro specs.
New iMac will be equipped with Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8GB HBM2 memory or Radeon Pro Vega 64 with 16GB HBM2 memory. The model numbers are likely referring to NCU count, which means AMD is already planning cut-down chips with 3584 cores, same as Radeon R9 Fury.

Anyone find it odd the benchmark slide says under nda until May 8th? If they had proof like this in hand during computex and the nda had already expired wouldn't they have mentioned it to satiate the people going for 1080s and 1080ti cards because they are tired of waiting for a Vega cards? Instead they do a pretty demo with two cards and no fps shown.

I'll take this with a huge grain of salt. I find it hard to believe that a card with not a single core more than the last high end card is some how 22% faster than the competitions currently top of the line card. Maybe it's true maybe it's a truly genuinely innovative architecture. But until we see third party reviews I remain very skeptical.

I'm excited for Vega but man I would be kicking myself by now if I hadn't bought a 1070 when it launched right at a year ago.

    they eat lots of power

This is the first confirmation that AMD is already sharing details of RX Vega lineup with partners. The launch is coming closer as we are still 5 weeks for RX Vega to arrive. However, there is a very good chance we will be seeing custom designs at launch.
As for the power consumption, I don’t think anyone expected it to be lower than Frontier’s, which has a board power of 300W (air-cooled) or 375W (liquid edition).

    they eat lots of power

This is the first confirmation that AMD is already sharing details of RX Vega lineup with partners. The launch is coming closer as we are still 5 weeks for RX Vega to arrive. However, there is a very good chance we will be seeing custom designs at launch.
As for the power consumption, I don’t think anyone expected it to be lower than Frontier’s, which has a board power of 300W (air-cooled) or 375W (liquid edition).

I need a Vega version with a 150-180 watt TDP. Something comparable to the 1070 for my new build.

Come on, AMD. It's time to come full circle. Performance and efficiency.

    Some new Vega "news".

    http://segmentnext.com/2017/06/05/official-amd-vega-benchmark/

"Official AMD Vega Benchmark Claims It Is 21% More Powerful Than The Nvidia Titan Xp."

"It is advised that you take this information with a bit of salt as this benchmark has not been confirmed from AMD yet and it would be wise to wait for the official word from AMD before you bet your money on team Red."
