The next line is around the corner so it's up to you if you want to stick with the X99 or wait for the next boards and CPU.

Check this link out for more info.

Yes I hear you I just bought a RIVE 5 edition 10 from amazon, I'm not going to open it until I find out what the I9 7900x cost officially, it looks like a 1000$ 10 core/44 lane 400$ more then the 6850k. Unfortunately 400$ can make or break my purchase, I know I buy the top end stuff it' looking like with the mobo/ram cpu it will be about 1800K. I already have the gskill 3200 c14 ram so that's a good start. Intel i don't think had their keynote yet but I have seen many x299 boards though I haven't seen the RIVE VI yet.

You think about cutting line on Intel 8 core, named i7-7820X?
That's insane if you ask me. After everything Intel should reward customers with all processors 44 PCI-E lanes.
But looks like they think If Ryzen 7 have 16 we will give only 28 for some models.

Wait, wait... this smell me on something very interesting X299 Dark with some nice fan...
I like motherboards with fans, special when fans are silent as on my Z77 FTW...
E-ATX fit perfectly in Mac G5 case....

I can't wait to see this motherboard.
X99 is finished. Not because X299... That would be still perfect combination, but launching Ryzen 7 X99 completely lost value.
I think even on i7-6900K. On X99 only could invest someone who could find very very very cheap i7-6900K and some cheap motherboard up to 250$, nothing else. X99 is still nice for gaming and will be long time, but for people who have platform years, not for investment now.
If someone have money and think to upgrade better to save even more for best possible option for X299. That would be 10 Core Intel
or 8 core for people who have single graphic card.
Now motherboards will have Internal USB 3.1 and 28 PCI-E lanes will enough for single graphic card users.
If designers of motherboard launch board with x4 and x1 PCI-E slot as RVE10 than customer will be able to install even sound card,
some x4 PCI-E device and single graphic card will work on x16 speed. But only if mobo have both x4 and x1 slots.
From that side RVE10 is perfect example for i7-6800K owners, they could install dedicate Sound Card, Intel 750, Samsung 960 PRO and GPU x16.

Ryzen 7 is far stronger, I mean that's not small difference, he is far stronger and better option than anything except i7-6950X and their price difference is insane. You can buy 1800X and TITAN Xp for same price. And you will not notice difference between CPU performance.

    Yeap.

Basically Intel will hold people to ransom to buy 10 cores for probably 1000$ even if previous generation offered more lanes in weaker chips. Have spare Classy and 5930 lying around and waiting what Intel and AMD will show. If it is worth the hassle then I will buy something new, if not I can basically create yet another system with same setup I already have.

Heres the ARS link on the new Intel drops. Intel haven't learned anything from the Ryzen drops and have decided to squeeze its customers for 44 lane pci-e chips at the $1000 level to start, with everything under that getting 28 I believe and official mem speeds of 2400mhz supported. They also shrunk all the caches which just seems like a bad idea no matter how they want to sell it to you. https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/05/intels-new-high-end-desktop-platform-up-to-18-cores-36-threads-2000/

I am not happy with Intel at all. This was supposed to be an upgrade cycle for me. I thought I was doomed with RGB until I saw the Dark MB. Okay, that problem solved.

Then Intel screws everyone over with regard to PCIe lanes and a dollar value. $1000.00 for the cheapest CPU with 44 lanes. Say what?!

Noibody force us on upgrade before computer become slow.
It's fact that they sell us same products years little optmized but now customers will get real performance increase.
I checked and i9-7900X is arround 80-90% faster than i7-5820K in Cinebench R15.
In previous years different fabric clock in many situation was only reason why new model are better on paper.
    People shouldn't spend money from Z77 to Z97, from Z97 to Z170...
But now new generation mean a much better results.

That's two big mistakes from Intel.
    1. Intel i7-7820X 8C/16T only 28 PCI-E lanes
    2. All Intel Xtreme processors with cheap paste!!!
Cheap or good paste they shouldn't go on that way, because of soldered CPU I liked Intel Xtremes.

Intel I think thought AMD will stay with Ryzen 7 1800X.
Like they didn't know nothing about Threadripper.

But Intel Chipset X299 is 24 PCI-E lanes, AMD X399 is only 4 PCI-E lanes.
That's huge difference. But AMD Thdreadripper have 60 PCI-E lanes and Intel CPU 28 and 44.

For me personally 28 PCI-E lanes from CPU and 24 from Chipset are enough.
But paste is biggest flaw. That completely destroy nice picture of Intel Xtreme processors.

I'm dissapointed more than I expected, some things as lack of 44 PCI-E lanes I could ignore because M.2 PCI-E Express could be connected with Chipset.
    Depend how manufacturers build motherboards.
AMD Threadripper is different, 60 PCI-E lanes from CPU, 4 from Chipset for Sound Card Example and something.
On X299 M.2 NVMe, PCI-E SSD use lanes from Chipset and leave 28/44 lanes from CPU free, very powerfull chipset with 24 lanes.
On X399 they need to use from CPU, no other way, M.2 need 2 PCI-E lanes, PCI-E SSD 4 lanes, etc...
on chipset only could be SATA Express if they use or Sound Card, USB 3.1 use 2 as well.
X399 chipset no place for NVMe M.2 and PCI-E SSD.

So let me ask... if the z270 board perform on par with the x99 boards in game, woth less pci lanes... how much is this actually affecting you?

Maybe if you are doing production work and need more lanes and dont care about sli... but seriously.. i am curious how it is actually affecting you. Dont say "i want the best" since they have been performing the same with less pci lanes. Also, I am not bashing, so please dont go off on a rant.

I don't know vlad, 80 - 90% sounds awfully optimistic, even from a 5820k. Where did you see that?

    https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2017/05/intel-claims-30-performance-boost-for-8th-generation-processors/

"Back in February, Intel said only "greater than 15 percent" boost from 7th generation (Kaby Lake) to 8th generation (Coffee Lake) on its incrementally improved 14nm process. Now the company is saying "30 percent" improvement."

"While Intel's big news today is the announcement of its 18 core, 36 thread, high-end desktop X-series processors, the company has revealed one detail for the 8th generation mainstream processors that are due to be released later this year: the new chips will, at least in some particular circumstances, be 30 percent faster than 7th generation Kaby Lake parts.
That's a huge generational improvement, but of course, there are footnotes to consider. The 30 percent boost came in one benchmark—SYSmark 2014 version 1.5—and applies to 15W U-series mobile processors. The comparison pits an i7-7500U (2.7GHz base, 3.5GHz turbo) with two cores and four threads against an unnamed next generation chip. SLI is a thing of the past for the majority of games as far as I've seen. The only way this hurts is if you're doing crunching or folding, etc. at least that I can see. But hey, I've been wrong before :)  That said, it doesn't bother me since SLI has fallen out of favor and never really worked that well in practice.

SLI definitely isn't a thing of the past. It will definitely be need for 4k 144Hz.

If you can get a game to run an SLI config properly. It seems lately that the performance bump from sli is decreasing. I agree it would be nice, but the reality has never matched the idea behind it.

Edit: at least in my experience with SLI ymmv

+1...... Ive never had a problem running SLI unless there wasn't a performance profile for it or a game wasnt coded for it. Triple SLI was a bit different story though and the gains def weren't there to stay triple sli, for me anyway. I cant see something that lets you instantly double your gpu power by just dropping another card in and putting a bridge on it, falling out of favor..... ever really. Triple and quad may be a different story, but dual sli will be here for a good long time for sure, especially since its a easy way for the gpu manufacturer to extend profits.
