While I am not an expert on graphics cards, I think I may be having a possible issue with my VRM temps on my 980TI. They are typically running about 35c hotter than the CPU temps. My system has locked up twice from them overheating and I have gone as far as reducing the power target in Precision X OC to keep them below 90c. Am I being paranoid or am I justified?

The 980 Ti FTW, or any other 980 Ti for that matter, doesn't have a VRM temperature sensor(s). Those VRM temps listed in that program are likely the motherboard's VRM temps, and they do seem a bit toasty.

Try lowering your CPU/RAM overclocks to see if that helps. Also, case airflow over the motherboard might be an issue. Finally, the thermal grease might have dried out or the heatsink might have come loose on the motherboard VRMs.

    Hello,

I am sorry to hear of your issue. If your GPU is making it to 90c then there is a problem.

Are you running a custom fan curve? Is your case airflow adequate to keep the ambient air cool?

I have the fan curve set to aggressive.

I have 2 140mm fans in the front, 1 120mm fan in the back, and 2 120mm fans on top.

How quickly does the GPU reach 90C? What is the idle temp on the GPU?

here is the idle temp readings. It takes about 5 minutes to get upto 70+. After the fans goto high I have about another 20 minutes before I am into the 85+

the vrm listed there is for your MB and not the video card. the GPU diode is the only sensor for the video card. if thats going to 90 then i would set the fan at max and test again. if the gpu is staying below 70c under full load then you are good. the vrm's on your mother board will get warm but 90c is hot. the heatsink on that board (GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H )
could need new thermal pads ( i would never use paste on vrm's ) can you put any active cooling on the heatsink, maybe on the NB sink?
