As the title suggests, does anybody know if ASRock's motherboards are good? I was looking at this one https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157769; The main reason I'm interested in this motherboard is the on board WiFi support, since I might not be able to connect my upcoming build via LAN, due to where I'm planning on putting it.

The only issue that seems typical is one that has been a problem for Ryzen boards in general, and that is poor support for RAM, specifically at higher frequencies.

Normally I'd go with ASUS or MSi, as I've had good experiences with ASUS, and I've heard MSi makes really good boards as well; I haven't heard much about ASRock, but wireless is a feature I need whether it be onboard or if I have to hunt down a good PCIe card. The board in question having onboard is useful and should make things easier.

I have a dual socket 2011 Asrock and it a very good, solid stable board.
I am pretty sure Asus makes Asrock, so not so sure how good the cust service is.
Not to happy with Asus cust service myself and I'm not the only one. Lucky I hardly have had to use their cust service.

I did a quick search, and ASRock was spun off from Asus. I wouldn't be surprised if they had the same OEM, or even similar builds.

I didn't know about that, thanks for bringing it up. I thought they were two completely different companies, who happened to have similar names.

    I've got this board: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20Z170%20Gaming-ITXac/

Solid little performer, no complaints. They make solidly mid range boards with good feature sets.

I wouldn't base the onboard WiFi as a deciding factor, you'd be better off picking up a decent USB WiFi dongle with a external antenna and ext USB line if you want to connect wirelessly.

I've been wanting to give ASRock a test drive.     It just seems that with them you're either going to get a rock solid board or not.   Check the reviews.  Yeah, I know you need to take those with a grain of salt, but it is an indicator on the reliability or stability of the board.

I've had two MSI boards and both have been rock solid and stable.

Asus builds its own boards and some of ASRock boards. they were originally the Oem and budget brand for ASUS but as you noted they were spun off, there boards have gained a pretty decent rep for being full featured with out the uber high price.

quad latte explained what I wanted to say. - Years ago they had a bad reputation, but that's long gone. + I think today there are no bad mb anymore, no matter what you take. It's up to you what fits you best. ^^ The only thing to do - if you haven't allready -, is reading: Reviews, reviews and reviews. ^^ And if you're looking for a serious source (no offense, guys), try Toms Hardware.

Why? AMD Price point/ core............new CPUs in the pipe line.............Teething pains for now, but look pretty damn promising IMO...........I'm close to going BACK to AMD..............MOBO and CPU for AMD rig and have money left over for a nice (nVidia) GPU.............you forget years ago AMD put the whoopin on Intel..............

Normally I would, but Ryzen is showing to be actually viable. I've always had Intel myself, and I was still considering them, but they are just too damn expensive, with little improvement in performance over the years (I'd have to spend a lot to beat my 2600k going Intel).

Sure Ryzen is more so high core count (multi threaded performance knocks Intel out of the park), and per thread performance is modest (according to Passmark), but it isn't the years behind budget stuff from the past. They're a great value.

Plus I don't feel a need for much higher than a mid range CPU. If I were going enthusiast, or high end, I would agree with you. But for my needs Intel is not worth it.

I'm willing to at least give AMD a chance since the reviews have been good thus far.

I currently use ASRock z270 killer sli mobo. It's a cheap mobo but works great has higher end options and I currently have my 7700k at 4.9 ghz slowly working my way up to 5ghz. Not bad for a $140 mobo

That review is N/A for those that play games at higher resolutions...AND that review is old.  You might want to go back and look again.  I own two systems, one with a 1700X and one with a 7700K and can tell you right now from first person experience (not some stupid biased article) that the 1700X is the real deal and performs on par and at times beats the 7700K in gaming and absolutely destroys the 7700K at anything that involves multi-tasking.  I play games at UWQD (3440 x 1440) and at 4K, so no low resolution gaming junk talk here.  Also, take into consideration price per clock performance AND that most of the new games are optimized for multi-threading and it's a no brainer.  Ryzen hands down is the winner.  Intel is in big trouble and they know it!

ASRock boards are usually solid and reliable in the long run. I wouldn't recommend the boards for extreme performance and/or overclocking.

    XrayMan

I would go Intel. Get away from AMD.

AMD RYZEN is very good and your recommendation is without merit.

I love intel but XrayMan is correct. Especially at 2 and 4 k gaming.

Maybe I'm reading something different than you are or I don't understand your comment.

How is Xrayman correct at 2 and 4k gaming when the link you provided clearly shows AMD's 1700x doing better than the 7700k in 2 and 4k gaming?
Do you mean in comparison to a 6 or 8 core Intel cpu? If so, that's not a good review to link as it's apples to oranges being 8core vs 4core

    The review shows 1080p, 1440p & 4k. May 26th 2017 is old? lol.

Sorry, but I think this thread isn't about Ryzen vs 7700k.

I have two asRock boards and they give me zero problems. I think they are indeed "as rock"

Good point and a good reminder to stay on topic! Thanks for the reminder.

Yes, old by almost a month.  Case in point, my system can run DDR4 now at 3200Mhz with no issues with all four DIMMs used.  This alone makes all the benchmarks outdated as Ryzen is very sensitive to the DDR4 speeds.  Also, newer drivers are out now as well as new BIOS updates and game patches.  You need to do your homework before trolling.

I believe Asrock gained popularity and praise with their Z77 Extreme4 from the Ivy Bridge days. They were meh, that board happened, then they were the go to budget boards. They got better when they released the OC Formula line that generation.

I decided to try out the Ryzen 1700x and went with the ASrock Taichi board. I plan on starting the build this coming weekend so I'll let you know what I think after that but first opinions from specs and unboxing is this is a solid board, quality components, and good looks. The documentation is not as in depth or complete as Asus or MSI or EVGA from what I've seen and yes I've owned MB from all those manufacturers.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes but I expect good things with this board.
