Hey guys,
I was installing my GTX 680 (02G-P4-2680-KR) into a new build and encountered an issue that I've been trying for hours to solve. I've tried multiple fresh Windows 10 installations as well as different Nvidia driver versions (each time doing a clean driver install using DDU to fully remove previous drivers).
Basically, everytime I try to install the drivers (aka update the Microsoft Basic Display drivers), midway during the installation the screen goes black as the computer is still running, then after about 20 seconds of the black screen the computer automatically restarts. After getting back into Windows, the drivers have not been installed so I have to reopen the driver install and try again (only for the same black-screen-reboot issue to occur).
If I have the internet on, Microsoft will try to automatically update the graphics drivers on its own, causing my computer to follow the same pattern of black-screen-to-restart. I've also tried updating and installing the drivers in Safe Mode and through Device Manager (manually pointing to the unpacked Nvidia drivers folder).
In Safe Mode and through Device Manager, the updated installation actually finishes but upon restarting, I'll see the BIOS screen but then after that, it's pitch black. I can't even get into Windows now.
I've tried different PCI-E slots, swapped out everything ranging from CPU, mobo, to ram. The only thing left I can try swapping out is the PSU, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it because when I remove the 680 and put in my EVGA GTX 980Ti, the Nvidia drivers installation goes through completely smooth with zero hiccups. Then when I fire up Unigine Heaven the 980Ti works fine as well. So it seems that the 680's wonky I guess?
I have no idea what to do at this point. If anyone has any experience in this matter I'd love to hear their thoughts, thank you.
