Tony Scott directed the original Top Gun and in fact shortly before Tony Scott's death both he and Tom Cruise were researching Top Gun 2. The death of Tony Scott put the Top Gun 2 on hiatus for a long time. Good to see that Jerry Bruckheimer is overseeing this project as I personally feel he is one of the few who could make it happen in a good way.

I want to think this could be good but I could see drone pilots or something like that ruining the movie. I also think the movie might be coming out at the wrong time since who would they have as the enemy to the United States Air Force? Russia or China are the only places that make sense unless they go for ISIS takes over an Air Force base and all the sudden have people who know how to pilot the F-35.
I really want it to be good but the movie will face some problems and I am not sure it should have Tom Cruise in it. Unless they go full 80's and then it could be good. If they did it like a year or two after the original movie then I could see it working on a lot of levels without a lot of the problems making a modern age movie would face.

Doesnt matter who would go up against the Air Force, as top gun is Navy. The latest Red Flag in vegaz brought the F35 out to play, and the F35 had a kill ratio of 12 to 1, so that could be their new toy for the movie. I judt hope the tail numbers stay consistent this time.

You can't have Top Gun without the F-14 Tomcat.
Furthermore, today's beyond visual range technology eliminates the necessity for dog fighting. Even actual 80's Tomcat engagements against Lybian SU-22's were missile kills following brief aerial maneuvers. This film is going to be stupid. I mean 'Red Tails' stupid where the focus is on revenue generating action sequences rather than plot and authenticity.
Still, I am curious as to the feel of the final product and a fan of aviation so I will give them a chance. So i am pleading that the producers and director do not destroy the combination of true special effects, clean camera work, authentic aerial displays of the F-14 in flight and homosexual undertones experienced by Naval personnel on a daily basis, I'm sure, which coalesced into the classic, homo erotic, naval aviation action film we still know and love.

Yeah how's that going to work in the age of Hollywood anti-patriotism anti-military apologist socialist idiocy? Are they going to fly to Afghanistan and drop flowers on all the extremists? When they face off with a couple of MIGs they'll start crying and eject? They'll scrap all the fighter jets and get to tool around in the Goodyear Blimp instead? The Top Guns are the ones whose paper airplanes fly the furthest when thrown off a flight control tower? lol... So much potential downside and so little upside to this - good luck, they're going to need it.

You also need a good soundtrack. Paramount went above and beyond the typical movie to have many good music tracks written and produced specifically for Top Gun. They'll need to do it again if they want to actually try for a good sequel.
 Have water, will cool.
