Nvlink: for use in super computers (source: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvlink.html) issue, there is nothing super about the computers shown above. I am still skeptical that they will release an nvlink consumer model, or maybe they are getting ready to bend the enthusiast masses over with absurd pricing.

the nvlink shown on that card is different than this and more like the quadro nvlink (2-way)

But the "titan" pictured has a backplate blocking the supposed nvlink. The quadro does not. Also, have you looked at the price of those nvlink bridges? I would consider looking at those. Here, let me help: https://www.bhphotovideo....link_2_way_2_slot.htmlIf you think people cry when they pay $40 for a sli bridge.. do you really think nvlink like this is going to make them happy? My point is, in reality, if we see nvlink, it will be an incredibly dumbed down version to make it "affordable for consumers" kind of like nvidia dropping double precision on the maxwell titan x and then releasing another shaved down titan x for the first pascal titan.. i highly doubt this is feasible, and more than likely is marketing at work.

Looks like an early alpha prototype card to me

Micron To Begin Mass Production of GDDR6 Memory in Early 2018 – GDDR5X Achieves 16 Gbps Speeds GDDR6 will come in 8Gb and 16Gb densities while the standard followed by JEDEC allows for up to 32Gb dies The 16Gb dies will essentially double the VRAM since each chip will feature 2 GB VRAM. A 384-bit bus card could feature up to 24 GB while dies with 32Gb density will deliver 48 GB VRAM along the same interface. http://wccftech.com/micro...production-early-2018/------------------------------------------- so GDDR6 not really avail til 2018 However since they can get GDDR5X to 16Gbps - you can use gddr5x in Volta now and get the speed they want now only problem will be memory size limits

Typo: "so GDDR6 not really avail til 2016" 2018. Too late for things to drop in 16 ;-)

I do think it's possible that they might have a SLI 2.0 or something that's loosely based on NVlink, or at least has a connection that vaguely resembles a Nvlink connection anyway. though I'm guessing that it'll either be a HB SLI for 4 way configs ( meaning a very very small piece of the market) or does something a bit more than just beef up the bandwidth of SLI even farther than HB SLI bridges.

Oh damn that's nuts man 999 USD for a set of those NVLink Connectors... That is crazy... And no People won't really like that, unless NV Created a more down scaled version of it for the consumers market thereby still replacing the older and more common SLI Bridge method. We can expect anything, even tho I don't see how this can be more efficient than the current SLI bridge method we have now. rjohnson11 Looks like an early alpha prototype card to me
oohh I would love to have this prototype I just love such cards Looks like NV link is like the successor of the traditional SLI connector method, still don't get why NV doesn't do bridgeless like AMD Radeons do. That way you can use the bandwidth of the entire PCI-E bus instead and you would get far more out of it. Especially when doing Multi GPU rendering like with Vulkan's Asymmetric Multi GPU Rendering, that works via a tile based rendering format.

Nvidia can still use the pcie bus in tandom with the sli/nvlink bridges this would enable more bandwidth and not clog up the pcie bus

Yeah that would make sense :) it's just that bridges may cause more latency, also why Radeons don't use them CFX Cables anymore. As that the principle of the SLI Ribbon cables is the same to that of the CFX ones. Yet it looks interesting to see how Volta develops from here on
